What to Do if You’re Experiencing Low Water Pressure in Sunset Oaks

January 28 2026

As Sunset Oaks continues to grow and welcome new families, everyday household questions about utilities are bound to pop up — and one common concern among homeowners is low water pressure.

If you're a Sunset Oaks resident experiencing low water pressure, the Maxwell Special Utility District (Maxwell SUD), which serves the neighborhood and surrounding Maxwell area, wants you to know you're not alone — and there are some simple steps you can take to get things flowing again.

First: Check for Leaks

Low pressure could be a sign of a leak either on your property or nearby. Start by locating your water meter, which is typically housed in a concrete box near the front of your home, close to the street. It's often in line with your main outdoor faucet.

Once you've found it:

  • Use a tool like a large screwdriver to remove the meter box lid. Insert the tool into one of the holes and gently pry it open.

  • Inside, you’ll see a digital display. Read the numbers from left to right — this is your current water usage in gallons.

If the meter is spinning even when no water is running inside your home, you may have a leak. Inspect areas around the house for signs of water pooling, wet spots in the yard, or dripping pipes.

Still Have Low Pressure? Call Maxwell SUD

If no leaks are visible and the issue persists, Maxwell SUD encourages residents to call their office directly to report low water pressure in your area. This helps them track patterns and respond more effectively.

Reading Your Water Meter for Accuracy

Sometimes homeowners check their meter and notice a big difference between the reading and their recent water bill. Here’s what to know:

  • You may be reading your meter on a different date than your billing cycle, so slight differences are normal.

  • If your meter reading is much higher than what your bill reflects, investigate for potential leaks or recent large water usage.

  • If your meter reading is significantly lower than your billed amount, contact Maxwell SUD so they can help troubleshoot the issue.

A Resource for the Growing Sunset Oaks Community

As Sunset Oaks continues to expand in Caldwell County, community education on basic utility functions helps residents stay informed and empowered. From checking for leaks to understanding your meter readings, these simple steps can save time, money, and stress.

For more helpful tips, or if you have any questions about your water service, reach out to Maxwell Special Utility District at 512-357-6253. Friendly, local staff are happy to assist.
