Wear Green This Friday for Mental Health Awareness Month
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Let's unite together for mental health!
This Friday, May 13, CFISD encourages you to "Get Your Green On" by wearing something green in support of Mental Health Awareness Month. The theme for this year's observance is "Together for Mental Health". Together, we can help end the stigma and change the way the world sees mental health.
Mental Health Awareness Month has been observed in May in the United States since 1949 and was started by the Mental Health America organization. Mental Health America (MHA)'s work is driven by its commitment to promote mental health as a critical part of overall wellness, including prevention services for all; early identification and intervention for those at risk; integrated care, services, and supports for those who need them; with recovery as the goal.
Maintaining good mental health is just as important as maintaining good physical health. Oftentimes, the benefits overlap. Here are a few ways you can support your mental wellbeing today and everyday:
- Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, and low in processed foods and saturated fats
- Get some form of exercise on a regular basis, especially if you can get it in while outside
- Try to get a good night's sleep each night to recharge your batteries
- Build a support system through friends, family, fellow community members and mental health professionals
- Develop and utilize healthy coping strategies that work for you
