Fall Classes

The Pearl is offering several classes for various age groups from kids to adults throughout the month of September. Class sizes are limited - reserve your spot today!

Youth Classes
When children get a chance to express their creativity and dive into art, they develop confidence, increase their empathy, and discover how to look at the world from different perspectives. All those skills help prepare students to take on the world with passion and creativity. Treat your child, grandchild, or friend to a gift of art!

Adult Classes
You're busy with work and life demands, so fitting in an art class might be challenging. But, nurturing your creative side is essential to your well-being - not to mention lots of fun!

Artistic and creative expression offers many benefits. Here are our top five:
  1. Relieve stress.
  2. Rekindle your passion.
  3. Look at the world in new ways.
  4. Get unstuck and challenge yourself.
  5. Meet new people.
So, what are you waiting for? Treat yourself to a gift of art!

Adult Art Workshops
Adult Art Workshops are designed for beginners, but all levels are welcome! Artist instructors offer a variety of workshops throughout the year exploring different media and techniques. Typically, one daytime and two evening sessions are offered for each workshop. Currently each workshop is limited to 10 participants.

For most workshops, all supplies necessary to complete the project are included with the workshop fee. Any additional supplies required of participants will be noted in the workshop description.

Certain workshops may have a higher fee depending on the length of the workshop, instructor fees, and supply costs, but typical workshop fees range from $45-60. All workshops provide Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit for educators.

Reservations for Adult Art Workshops can be made online by clicking on the registration links listed below. For more information please contact Grace Mussell at gracepfmfa@gmail.com or 281-376-6322.

"Dia De Los Muertos"

The Pearl’s second annual Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 29 on the grounds of the museum. This family-friendly event is free of charge and the community is warmly invited to attend.

“Three Excellences of Culture: Painting, Poetry and Music, the Work of Art Rosenbaum and Friends”

This fall the Pearl is proud to present, in cooperation with the Linda Matney Gallery in Virginia, a colorful exhibition featuring the narrative painter Art Rosenbaum; his wife, professional photographer Margo Newmark Rosenbaum; and the friends and former students they met along the way. The exhibition opened on September 24 and continues through January 14, 2023.

Art Rosenbaum paints images of Southern folklore in richly colored canvases that depict lively figures often dancing or holding musical instruments. Rosenbaum’s paintings are in many collections, including the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Georgia Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian National Museum of American Art. He also plays a variety of folk instruments, and his music will be part of the exhibition at the Pearl as well.

Three Excellences of Culture will be featured in both the Main Gallery and the Cole Gallery at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts this fall. Among the other artists whose work will be included are his wife, Margo Newmark Rosenbaum, whose photographs have been published in the New York Times, Newsweek, and are part of many private collections; Howard Finster, who designed album covers for R.E.M. and the B-52’s; Len Jenkin, whose work includes scripts for Family, The Incredible Hulk, and the novel New Jerusalem; Michael Paxton, Bonnie Loggins, Dennis Harper, Kent Knowles, Scott Belville, Dilmus Hall and Teddy Johnson.

Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and admission is free. For more information, visit pearlmfa.org.
