Trout-a-Palooza 2026 Makes a Splash in Spring, Plus Where to Fish in Harris County Precinct 3

January 08 2026

Pack your supplies and grab your fishing pole — Harris County Precinct 3’s annual Trout-A-Palooza returns Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dennis Johnston Park, located at 709 Riley Fuzzel Road, Spring, TX 77373. Hosted by Harris County Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom S. Ramsey, this free family-friendly fishing event brings community members together to enjoy a crisp morning by the water, complete with stocked trout, bait provided, and limited gear available to borrow.

Set along the banks of Spring Creek, Dennis Johnston Park is one of 17 public parks across Harris County Precinct 3 where residents can fish legally and recreationally. During Trout-A-Palooza, attendees will also have the opportunity to meet with a Texas Game Warden and connect with local fishing organizations — making it not just a fun day out, but also an educational experience for aspiring anglers of all ages

Know Before You Go: Fishing Regulations in Texas

Whether you're headed to Trout-A-Palooza or planning a quiet weekend at your local park, here are a few key fishing rules from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD):

  • License Required: Anyone 17 and older must have a valid Texas fishing license with the appropriate freshwater endorsement for public inland waters.
  • Bag & Size Limits: Follow statewide bag limits and minimum/maximum lengths for game fish like bass, catfish, crappie, and trout.
  • Bait Rules: Using game fish or their parts as bait is illegal. Only native Gulf shrimp may be used in Texas waters.
  • No Waste: Edible fish taken from public waters cannot be left to die without the intent to use them.
  • Catch & Release: A fish placed on a stringer, in a livewell, or cooler is considered “in possession” and subject to regulations.
  • Visit tpwd.texas.gov for full rules and updates.

Make It a Family Tradition

Whether you’re a seasoned angler or a first-time fisher, Trout-A-Palooza offers a relaxed and welcoming way to connect with the outdoors and your community. And with 17 well-maintained Precinct 3 parks offering fishing access, there’s always a place nearby to drop a line and enjoy the great outdoors.
