Trail and Landscape Improvements Moving Forward in Fairfield Near Inwood Park

September 08 2025

Inwood Park neighbors will soon see new trail connections and landscaping features as Harris County WCID No. 155 advances Phase 2 of its Master Sidewalk Improvements Plan.

Big changes are on the horizon for walkability and green space near Inwood Park. According to a newly filed state permit, construction of trail and landscape improvements along Channel C is set to begin December 1, 2025, with completion scheduled for March 31, 2026. The $350,000 project will bring new sidewalks, benches, and plantings that expand on earlier improvements made in Fairfield.

The permit outlines a 6-foot-wide concrete sidewalk with bench pads, trash cans, and pet waste stations, along with ornamental and canopy tree plantings. The total construction footprint covers 25,000 square feet. For residents, this means easier access to the Fairfield Athletic Club, nearby parks, and schools, while also supporting community drainage management.

This work builds on progress already reported by My Neighborhood News earlier this summer, when the District confirmed the installation of 11,700 feet of trail connectivity throughout Fairfield. At that time, Board member Ms. Ellison emphasized that the improvements were about more than convenience:

“A sidewalk would encourage any walkers not to walk on grass or in mud and help with maintenance of the condition of the maintenance berm,” she said. The District’s phased approach reflects a larger commitment to both flood control and community connectivity. Sidewalks and trails are being built to Harris County standards, ensuring they are wide enough to support shared use by walkers, joggers, and cyclists.

For Inwood Park residents, the new work near Fairfield Park Drive and surrounding drainage channels means safer, cleaner, and more reliable pedestrian pathways. The addition of trees and landscape features also aims to enhance the beauty and usability of these spaces for years to come.

The Harris County WCID No. 155 Board continues to provide oversight on the project. Residents are encouraged to attend the Board’s monthly meetings, held on the fourth Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Bradford Creek Clubhouse. These meetings offer opportunities to learn more about the sidewalk projects, flood control initiatives, and other neighborhood infrastructure updates.
