Towne Lake Residents: What You Need to Know About Bulk and Heavy Trash Pickup by MUD District

July 08 2025

As Towne Lake continues to thrive as one of Cypress’s most vibrant master-planned communities, keeping up with neighborhood services like trash and recycling helps maintain the beauty and order residents enjoy. But with four separate Municipal Utility Districts (MUDs) serving Towne Lake—Harris County MUDs 501, 502, 503 and 500 (a non-residential MUD)—bulk and heavy trash collection schedules and rules can vary widely.

Bulk trash service plays a crucial role in helping residents manage large or irregular waste that doesn’t fit into regular trash bins—think old furniture, yard debris, and broken appliances. Having scheduled, reliable pickup days not only makes home projects and seasonal cleanouts easier, but also helps prevent illegal dumping, improves neighborhood aesthetics, and supports community-wide sanitation and health.

This quick guide breaks down what each MUD allows, when they collect, and how residents can stay in compliance while planning major cleanouts or curbside pickups. Not sure which MUD you are in? Click here for a map showing all of the MUDs in Towne Lake.

Harris County MUD 501

Service Provider: Texas Pride Disposal
Heavy Trash & Bulk Collection: Two items per service day

Residents in Harris County MUD 501 can leave out up to two bulk or heavy items on each regular collection day. Accepted items include:

  • Furniture
  • Appliances
  • Carpet (must be tied and bundled)
  • Fencing (nails removed, tied and bundled, under 4 feet long)

All items should be placed curbside. Keeping bundles tight and under the size limits ensures quick pickup and prevents delays for your neighbors.

Harris County MUD 502

Service Provider: WM (formerly known as Waste Management)
Bulk Collection Day: Fourth Tuesday of every month

This district offers monthly bulk pickup. Acceptable items for residents in Harris County MUD 502 include:

  • Broken down and bundled moving boxes
  • Old furniture
  • Bagged grass clippings and leaves
  • Branches and tree trimmings (no more than 3” in diameter, 4’ long, 40–50 lbs, tied in bundles)

Have questions about the recent switch to curbside automated side load (ASL) collection? Call 800-800-5804 or email cssatex@wm.com for help.

Tip: Avoid missed pickups by placing items out the evening before.

Harris County MUD 503

Service Provider: Best Trash
Heavy Trash Collection: Every service day

This MUD offers more frequent flexibility. On both collection days, Harris County MUD 503 residents may set out:

  • Up to 2 large items like mattresses, appliances, or furniture
  • Carpet (1 room max, cut to less than 4 feet wide, tied in bundles no more than 40 lbs)
  • Trees, shrubs, brush trimmings, and fencing (under 4” diameter, no longer than 4’ feet, tied in 40 lb bundles)

Important Note: Federal law requires that refrigerators, freezers, and any items with Freon be professionally drained. A bill of service must be attached to the item.

Need more than normal pickup? Best Trash offers a special collection service for oversized loads. Email customerservice@besttrashtexas.com with your district name, address, and photos of your bulk pile to request pricing.

A Reminder to All Residents: Respecting Guidelines Keeps Towne Lake Clean

Each MUD has different rules to match its equipment and vendor capabilities, but all share a common goal: preserving the safety, appearance, and efficiency of your community streets.

Improperly placed or oversized trash not only risks being left behind—it can delay service for everyone and even damage equipment.
