
The Colonies Celebrate Community and Safety at 2025 National Night Out Event
The spirit of unity and community pride was on full display as residents of The Colonies came together on Saturday, October 4, for the annual National Night Out celebration hosted at the Colonies Neighborhood Center. With perfect fall weather and a strong community turnout, the event was a shining example of what makes The Colonies neighborhood such a special place to call home.
National Night Out is a nationwide initiative designed to foster positive relationships between communities and their local public safety agencies. The Colonies’ celebration was no exception, offering neighbors the chance to connect, relax, and show appreciation for those who serve.
A highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of a certificate of recognition to Harris County MUD 102, awarded by the Office of Commissioner Lesley Briones, Harris County Precinct 4. Representatives from Commissioner Briones’ office, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo’s office, Harris County Sheriff's Office, and the Greater Harris County 911 Emergency Network were in attendance, showing their support for The Colonies community.

Adding to the excitement, a team from the Cy-Fair Fire Department rolled in with a firetruck, giving kids a thrilling opportunity to climb aboard and snap photos with their local heroes. It was a crowd favorite, with families lining up to meet the firefighters and explore the truck.
Local partner My Neighborhood News was also on-site, handing out candy to delighted young attendees and capturing moments from the event to help share the joy with the wider community.
In true Texas fashion, volunteers stepped up in a big way — preparing and serving a delicious BBQ meal that had people coming back for seconds. The Yorktown Colony HOA handed out patriotic giveaways and important community information, keeping residents informed while spreading festive spirit.
Guests of all ages enjoyed a wide array of lawn games, a chance to swim in the community pool, and plenty of time to simply relax and reconnect with neighbors. The laid-back and family-friendly vibe made for a warm and memorable evening.
To keep the atmosphere lively, a DJ spun tunes throughout the event, providing the perfect soundtrack for an afternoon of fun. Some attendees even danced along to their favorite songs, adding to the joyful energy of the gathering.
A special moment came when Martha, a longtime volunteer, was honored with an award for over 10 years of dedicated service to the Yorktown Colony HOA. Her contributions and commitment to the community were met with a heartfelt round of applause.

From strengthening community bonds to honoring public servants and local leaders, the event was a powerful reminder of the value of coming together — one neighborhood at a time.
