Strawberry Picking and Tulips in Bloom: Why Now Is the Perfect Time to Visit Atkinson Farms in Tomball

March 03 2026

As warmer days arrive across Tomball and Spring, many local families are looking for simple ways to spend time outdoors. For families hoping to spend a little time outdoors together or enjoy a relaxed morning on the farm, Atkinson Farms is already in full swing — and this stretch of beautiful weather may be one of the sweetest times to go.

Strawberry season at Atkinson Farms has been underway since early January, running from December through May, but with blue skies and comfortable temperatures settling in, the fields are drawing steady crowds. On Monday, March 2, the farm announced it would commence strawberry picking for the day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., or until supplies last, noting that availability is limited.

For longtime residents, this annual tradition feels like a marker of the season itself.

A Fourth-Generation Farm Rooted in the Community

Located at 3217 Spring Cypress Road in Spring, Texas, Atkinson Farms has been part of the local agricultural landscape for more than 75 years. Now a fourth-generation family farm, the Atkinsons grow more than 60 different vegetables throughout the year.

Their produce supplies the Bayou City Farmers Market, The Woodlands Farmers Market and their own onsite market — creating a farm-to-table connection that many in the greater Houston area value.

For families in Tomball, Spring and surrounding Northwest Houston neighborhoods, visiting Atkinson Farms offers more than just fresh strawberries. It’s a reminder that local farming is still alive and thriving just minutes from home.

Strawberry Picking in Tomball and Spring: What to Know Before You Go

Pick-your-own strawberries remain one of the farm’s biggest seasonal draws. Upon arrival, guests grab a basket and head into the fields to select their own berries. Once finished, visitors bring their basket into the market to pay by the pound.

Strawberry season runs through May, while blackberry picking begins in May and continues into July — giving families multiple opportunities to return throughout late spring and early summer.

The farm charges a $3.00 per person entry fee.

On busy, sunny days — especially after recent announcements about limited supply — arriving earlier in the day can help ensure the best selection.

Tulip Patch Now Open for Spring

Adding to the springtime atmosphere, the Atkinson Farms tulip patch is now open. Tulips are priced at $1.50 per stem, and guests are asked to bring their own cutting tools.

Rows of bright blooms have become a popular backdrop for family photos, and many visitors enjoy pairing strawberry picking with a stroll through the flowers — creating a full morning outing rather than a quick stop.

A Market Full of Homegrown Produce

Inside the farm store, shelves are stocked with an abundance of homegrown fruits and vegetables. Shoppers will find fresh cucumbers, yellow squash, tomatoes, preserves and other seasonal items grown right on the property.

For many residents hoping to find truly fresh produce close to home — without navigating crowded big-box stores — the onsite market at Atkinson Farms provides a simple, satisfying alternative. Shoppers can move from field to market in just a few steps, selecting vegetables that were harvested that same morning.

It’s a small but meaningful difference that shows up in both flavor and shelf life, and one that keeps food dollars circulating within the local farming community.

The ability to take children into a working field, show them where their food comes from and support a multi-generational Texas farm is something many families value deeply.

It’s not just about strawberries. It’s about slowing down long enough to experience a piece of local heritage.

With comfortable temperatures, strawberries still in season and tulips now blooming, this window of spring may be one of the best opportunities to load up the family and make the short drive.

Atkinson Farms is open seasonally at 3217 Spring Cypress Road, Spring, TX 77388. Visitors are encouraged to check daily updates on their Facebook page before heading out, as berry availability can change based on weather and demand.
