Steve Miller Named New Principal of Salyards Middle School in CFISD
Cypress-Fairbanks ISD has announced Steve Miller as the new principal of Salyards Middle School, bringing a familiar face and deep district roots to one of the most respected campuses in the area. The appointment was made official on Sept. 19 following the promotion of former principal Stacie Everson to assistant superintendent for elementary school leadership.
Miller, who most recently served as director of instruction at Spillane Middle School, has been a dedicated educator for 22 years—21 of those within CFISD. He steps into the leadership role at Salyards with a reputation for instructional excellence, steady mentorship, and a student-first mindset.

“I am truly grateful and excited to serve as the new principal of Salyards Middle School,” Miller shared. “It is a privilege to join such a vibrant community of students, staff and families. I look forward to building meaningful relationships, celebrating our proud traditions and continuing the legacy of excellence that makes Salyards so special. Go Bengals!”
Miller’s journey in education began in 2003 at Budewig Intermediate School in Alief ISD, where he taught fifth grade math and science. Just a year later, he joined the staff at Goodson Middle School in CFISD, taking on roles as a classroom teacher and team lead. He transitioned to campus leadership in 2007 as an assistant principal at Cypress Woods High School before finding a long-term home at Spillane Middle School, where he served in multiple leadership capacities for over 16 years.

Along the way, Miller earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Wyoming and a Master of Educational Administration and Leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University. He holds both Principal and Superintendent certifications and has served as a summer school principal four times. His mentorship of other CFISD leaders as an assistant principal and director of instruction mentor reflects his commitment to developing future talent across the district.
As Salyards Middle School prepares for this leadership transition, the campus community has much to look forward to under Miller’s guidance. His strong ties to CFISD, experience in middle school instruction, and dedication to fostering campus-wide excellence are expected to serve the Bengals well in the years ahead.
For families and students at Salyards, Miller’s appointment signals both continuity and fresh perspective—anchored in CFISD’s values and focused on student success.
