Step Back in Time with 'A Winter Wonderland' Candlelight Tours at the Historic Moore Home in Richmond
The Fort Bend Museum invites the community to step back in time and celebrate the holidays with its annual “A Winter Wonderland” Candlelight Tours at the historic Moore Home in Richmond, Texas. This beloved holiday tradition, hosted by the Fort Bend Museum Docents, offers a chance to experience Christmas as it was celebrated in the 19th century. Visitors will be able to explore the beautifully decorated Moore Home and the Long-Smith Cottage, two of Richmond’s most historic landmarks, while enjoying the warmth and charm of a bygone era.
The Moore Home, a stately mansion built in 1883, was once the residence of Congressman John M. and Lottie Dyer Moore. The home, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has been lovingly preserved and is one of the oldest buildings in Richmond. Visitors will be transported to a Victorian holiday celebration as they tour the elegantly decorated rooms, each adorned with festive greenery, antique ornaments, and lights that bring the past to life.

In addition to the Moore Home, visitors can also explore the Long-Smith Cottage, a historic structure built around 1855 on land once owned by Jane Long, known as the "Mother of Texas." The cottage is one of the area’s oldest surviving buildings, offering another glimpse into the rich history of Fort Bend County.
“Candlelight Tours is a holiday tradition that the Fort Bend Museum Docents graciously host every year for the Fort Bend community, and we can’t wait to see the Moore Home transformation this year,” said Madeleine Calcote-Garcia, Executive Director of the Fort Bend Museum. “This event allows visitors to celebrate the season while connecting with the history of our region in a meaningful and festive way.”
In addition to the historic tours, the event will feature a booth offering handmade Christmas items for sale, providing an opportunity to purchase unique gifts crafted by local artisans. Visitors can also enjoy free cookies and wassail, adding to the festive atmosphere.
