Stageworks Theatre Announces Cast for 2024 Production of Gypsy

January 04 2024

Get ready to experience a riveting tale of ambition and resilience as Stageworks Theatre brings you the classic musical, Gypsy, this March. Inspired by the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, the musical is an artistic collaboration that sets the stage ablaze with book by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Nestled in the heart of Cypress, this community theatre unites passionate performers and the audience in a celebration of storytelling. The anticipation is building as the cast list has just been unveiled.

Often hailed as the pinnacle of musical theatre by industry insiders, Gypsy spins the riveting story of a fiercely driven mother striving for her daughters' fame—yet harboring her own private dreams of the limelight. Traversing the breadth of the US during the transformative 1920s and 30s, a period marking the twilight of vaudeville and the dawn of burlesque, Arthur Laurents' iconic production delves into the gritty glamour of fringe show business with a mix of boldness, wit, tenderness, and elegance.

Heather Hall will be playing the lead role of Rose, a quintessential stage mother who lives vicariously through her two showbiz daughters, June and Louise. Hall is a Houston native and with over a decade of professional theatre under her belt. Hall is a graduate of The University of Oklahoma and has performed with various theatre companies like Art Factory Houston, Stages, TUTS, and Queensbury, to name a few. Hall is currently a business analyst for BP.

Playing the cover of Rose, Jasia Correa is the founder and president of Well Women Physical Therapy in Cypress. Correa is a Doctor of Physical Therapy with several certifications and specialties that focus on healing and wellness for women. A native Texan, Correa is an avid thespian performing with various theaters in Houston like Playhouse 1960.

Tabitha Simper will play the role of Dainty June, an older version of Baby June between the ages of 16 and 25 who finds herself constantly overshadowed by and frustrated with her mother, Rose. Additionally, she will cover the role of Louise. Simper graduated from Cypress Ranch High School and studied at American Musical and Dramatic Academy. She has produced a single on Spotify and has played at companies like Playhouse 1960.

Louise, who was overlooked by her mother, Rose, and ultimately transforms into exotic dancer Gypsy Rose Lee, will be played by Zoë Parkinson. She is an actor, choreographer, singer, and teaching artist with Stageworks Theatre from Austin. While performing is her true passion,  she also stage manages and teacher private voice lessons and audition coaching.

Aria Carr will play the role of Baby June, an adorable, baton-twirling younger version of Rose's younger daughter. Carr has performed with Uplift Family Theatre and TUTS in Houston.

Baby Louise, the younger version of Louise and the awkward and shy sister to June, will be played by Scarlett Rittenhouse. She is a Cypress-Fairbanks ISD student, winning Honorable Mention, All-Star Cast in Zone II of the Middle School UIL One-Act Play contest in November 2022.

Justin Finch will play the role of Herbie Sommers, potential fourth husband to Rose and agent for her children. Finch is a theatre arts teacher at Spillane Middle School in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD and has worked with TUTS, Stages Repertory Theatre, and the former Texas Repertory Theatre.
