Spring ISD Purchases Land for New Future Site for Spring High School
The Spring Independent School District has secured land for a future new site for Spring High School, with the purchase of 185 acres in the northeast area of the district – about 3 miles from the current school site.
The purchase of land, which was finalized this week for $20.2 million, was made possible through the voter-approved 2022 Spring ISD Bond.
Bordered by Hardy Toll Road to the west and Riley Fuzzel Road to the north, the 185.2-acre site will become home to a modernized facility equipped for state-of-the-art learning and instruction. Under current planning, the site would be accessed from Riley Fuzzel Road. For a map of the location, click here.
“In planning for the future of Spring High School, our Board of Education and our bond planning team have positioned our district to better meet the needs of our students and staff with a campus that supports state-of-the-art learning and instruction,” said Spring ISD Superintendent Dr. Lupita Hinojosa. “I am confident that this new campus will equip our students with a premier learning experience and the tools to excel in every area of their education.”
The current Spring High School building was constructed in 1968 and has undergone several additions over the years. As the district considered whether to rebuild on the current site or relocate, several challenges were posed with the current site, including increased costs, disruptions to instruction during demolition and construction, and limitations on design due to a smaller site.
“The district engaged in several studies of the new property, and we determined that the new 185-acre site is extremely suitable for our needs and encompasses the accessibility, feasibility and construction parameters we look for when selecting a school site,” said Spring ISD Chief of District Operations Mark Miranda.
Board President Justine Durant said after careful consideration of the land purchase, the Board of Trustees approved and was enthusiastic about future plans for the school.
“We are so excited for the Spring High School community and proud to support the campus’ future growth and the limitless possibilities this affords our students,” Durant said. “This new site gives our students room to breathe in an environment that is conducive to safety and enriched learning.”
In November 2022, voters approved all three propositions under the 2022 Bond measure, which encompasses $850 million that includes the rebuilding of Spring High School. Design is currently underway for the school, with plans to break ground in Spring 2025 and begin construction in Summer 2025. For more information on the 2022 Bond, go to www.springisd.org/bond.
