Spring ISD Celebrates Hispanic Heritage MBooker ES Teachers Shine with $10,000 Grant from Team Gillman Subaru North's Subaru Loves Learningonth
Team Gillman Subaru North loves learning, and Booker Elementary loves Team Gillman Subaru North!
In a heartwarming surprise Tuesday morning, 20 dedicated educators at Carol Booker Elementary School were awarded a $500 check and a classroom supply kit each, courtesy of Team Gillman Subaru North’s unwavering support through their Subaru Loves Learning initiative.
“It’s exciting to know that just down the street we have people who genuinely care for our school community, and most importantly, for our teachers and students," said Booker Elementary Principal Raekeisha Womack.
During festivities in the school library, Superintendent Dr. Lupita Hinojosa conveyed her appreciation for the Bengal teachers.
"This is indeed a special moment, and each of you truly deserves this recognition,” she said. “You are being honored for your steady commitment to our students, your ongoing support for Booker Elementary, and above all, your dedication to Spring ISD.”
The atmosphere in the school’s library continued to build as each teacher was individually called to the front to receive their award. Spring ISD leaders, colleagues, and students enthusiastically applauded.
Among the teachers honored was Marlene Encino, a 3rd-grade bilingual teacher who received Subaru’s donation last year. Encino shared her experience reflecting on the profound impact in her classroom.
“As a new teacher, you often think you have everything you need until you step into the classroom and realize there's still so much lacking,” she said. “However, Subaru’s Adopt a Classroom program came to the rescue, and I was able to provide for my students and their families.”
Encino, drawing from her personal experience of growing up in a low-income community empathizes with the challenges her students and families face. She expressed her profound gratitude for Team Gillman Subaru.
“It’s an incredible feeling to help children in need, and having community partners who not only understand our needs but also actively support us is truly invaluable,” she said.
The event concluded with a group photo followed by a festive breakfast for all the attendees. To learn more about the Subaru Loves Learning initiative, click here.
