Spring Into Learning: LSC-CyFair’s Lifelong Learning Program for Seniors Returns with Popular Classes and Trips

December 08 2025

For adults 50 and better in Cypress and surrounding areas, Lone Star College-CyFair’s Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL) is bringing back a beloved tradition of curiosity, creativity, and connection with its Spring 2026 lineup of classes, hands-on workshops, and local adventures. Whether you’re eager to try something new or simply want to meet others with similar interests, the upcoming ALL Open House on Tuesday, January 7, from noon to 2 p.m.is the perfect place to start.

Held right on the LSC-CyFair campus, this free event gives new and returning members the chance to explore the fun, low-cost courses and activities designed specifically for older adults—along with early access to sign up for some of the program’s most popular offerings: the always-in-demand Houston-area bus trips.

“After retirement, it’s one of the best ways to keep busy and meet people ‘our’ age,” shared one participant, while another noted, “It’s a fantastic opportunity to broaden your outlook on many things.” For many, the ALL program offers more than just classes—it’s a way to stay mentally sharp, socially connected, and genuinely excited for what each week brings.

This spring’s schedule is packed with favorites and fresh finds. From tech basics for beginners to health and wellness tips, literary chats, genealogy, art classes, and more, there’s something for every interest and pace. A new highlight this semester is a computer skills series geared toward those who want to build confidence using technology—something many members specifically asked for.

“Of course, Annemarie Reyes will be back to teach her well-loved cooking classes, guiding students through a variety of new recipes throughout the semester,” said Amy Duval, program coordinator for ALL. “And Professor Natalie Stovall is also returning with additional art courses, this time focusing on teaching students how to draw using pastels.”

And for those looking to get out and about? The ALL program’s local bus trips offer a chance to explore Houston’s museums, cultural hotspots, and hidden gems—with plenty of laughs and shared memories along the way. Three dedicated tables will be set up at the Open House to help members reserve their favorite excursions before they fill up.

Why Lifelong Learning Matters

Lifelong learning isn't just a fun way to spend time—it’s also a powerful tool for healthy aging. According to the National Institute on Aging, staying mentally and socially active helps reduce the risk of cognitive decline and supports better emotional well-being. A study published by Harvard Health Publishing also found that older adults who engage in learning and social activities are more likely to maintain sharper thinking, improved memory, and a greater sense of purpose.

“Keeping your mind active by learning new things and staying socially connected are powerful tools to maintain cognitive function,” the report explains.

In short, joining a program like ALL isn’t just enjoyable—it’s good for your health, too.
