Spring Home Maintenance Tips: Avoiding Violations and Enhancing Property Value in Yorktown Colony

April 10 2024

As spring begins, we wanted to share helpful tips to assist you as you work on your home. Our goal in providing this guidance is to help eliminate any deed restrictions notices and to improve the value of our homes. We appreciate your hard work to beautiful and maintain your home!

Common Violations

  1. Lawn-Tree Maintenance: Please ensure your lawn is manicured/watered and trees/shrubs are neatly trimmed. Please remove all weeds, damaged pots, misc. items etc. from front yards/porches. All stumps should be removed/ground. Any trees that extend over a fence/street need to be inspected and trimmed to allow safe passage of vehicles, particularly emergency response vehicles like fire trucks and ambulances. Please be sure to assess all dead grass and sod if needed. Your trees will be healthier for it, and your grass will get more sunlight to flourish. It's a win-win.
  2. Fences: Complete a thorough inspection and replace all damaged pickets. Besides, you don't want your furry friends to sneak into your neighbor's yard or get lost!
  3. Power Washing: As warmer weather permits, please ensure your driveway and exterior planking is free from mildew. This will make your home gleam and look like new again.
  4. Roof/Gutters: Inspect these areas and remove all debris as needed. More debris gets caught in gutters than we can see from below, and these vital components help preserve the life of your roof.
  5. Trash Bins/Disposal: Our designated days are Mondays/Thursdays. Please do not leave empty bins out after pick-up.

Home Improvement

Are you looking to make improvements to your home? If so, please reach out to the Architectural Control Committee. They are organized to provide and maintain uniformity and harmony in the construction of improvements to the homes in Yorktown Colony. Any improvement made to the exterior of your home or property must have prior approval by the committee, which requires an ACC application to be submitted.

Many residents are taking the opportunity to install pavers alongside their driveways. Please note that residents will need to request permission from the ACC committee to install pavers in this manner.

Thank you for all you do to help make Yorktown Colony and beautiful place to live!
