Spring Fire Department Announces New Fire Station
Spring Fire Department is thrilled to share the exciting news of the upcoming construction of a new Spring Fire Station 72 at the entrance to Northampton in Spring. Although the current station, which was built in the 1970s for a volunteer fire department, has served its purpose, it no longer aligns with the communities aesthetics and needs, according to the Spring Fire Department.
The new station marks a significant development in fire safety in the area. Set to be built on the same property, Station 72 will boast a spacious design, spanning almost 12,000 square feet—nearly double the size of the current station. A notable addition to the new facility is community space dedicated to CPR and other safety training classes, as well as hosting community events and accommodating local organizations such as scout troops and civic groups. The $6.6 million investment in this state-of-the-art station reflects Spring Fire's commitment to enhancing safety and community engagement.
Station 72 will feature eight firefighter dorm rooms, offices, training space, living quarters, a kitchen, restrooms, and a small gym. Notably, Spring Fire is also making room for a Harris County ESD 11 ambulance and crew, showcasing the department's evolution into a comprehensive combination fire department over the last decade. With all nine Spring Fire stations staffed 24/7/365, the average response time has improved significantly, demonstrating the department's dedication to serving the community promptly.
In 2022 alone, Spring Fire crews responded to 5,729 emergency dispatches, saving over a hundred million dollars in property. Station 72 crews were pivotal in addressing 580 of these emergency calls, underlining the station's crucial role in the community's safety infrastructure. As part of the development plan, the current Station 72 will undergo demolition in November 2023, with the construction of the new station expected to take 13 months.
Throughout the construction period, Station 72's three rotating crews, Engine 72, and Tanker 72 will remain operational, temporarily housed at Klein Fire Station 35, roughly 2 ½ miles away.
The new Station 72 will adhere to National Fire Protection Association standards, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and local codes. Designed by Martinez Architects, the new facility is tailored to meet both the functional needs of the department and the aesthetic preferences of the community. As the community eagerly anticipates the commencement of construction, the new Spring Fire Station 72 promises to be a beacon of safety, community engagement, and modern fire service for the residents it serves.
