Southwest ISD Students Earn Valero Alamo Bowl Scholarships in Historic Award Year
Southwest Independent School District students were among those recognized during a milestone year for the Valero Alamo Bowl Student-Athlete Scholarship Program, which distributed a record amount of funding to graduating seniors across the region.
Nathaniel Mireles of Southwest High School and Ethan Macias and Orion Zapata of Southwest Legacy High School were selected as 2025 scholarship recipients, each earning a $7,500 award. In total, the program awarded scholarships to 102 seniors representing 80 high schools throughout the San Antonio area.
Mireles is a three-year National Honor Society member and treasurer, treasurer for Business Professionals of America, historian for CyberPatriots, and a three-year football athlete who also competes in tennis. His involvement reflects the scholarship program’s emphasis on both academic achievement and leadership development.
