Smart Water Meter Upgrades Begin in Stone Gate: What Remington MUD #1 Residents Need to Know
Beginning Monday, April 28, 2025, residents of Stone Gate in Northwest Houston began seeing crews from Accurate Meter & Supply at work as Remington MUD #1 launched a new water meter replacement project. The effort aims to replace aging residential water meters with advanced smart meters designed to increase accuracy, reduce maintenance, and empower residents with greater insight into their water consumption.
Why the Change? Enhancing Accuracy and Transparency
Water meters are essential tools that measure household water usage, forming the basis of monthly billing. Over time, traditional meters tend to become less accurate, often underreporting consumption due to wear and tear. According to Remington MUD #1, the new meters are compatible with an upgraded Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system, which ensures more precise readings and replaces units that have exceeded their useful lifespan.
“There’s no cost to residents for these meter replacements,” confirmed the District in a public notice. “The project is intended to ensure customers receive fair and accurate billing while reducing the need for routine maintenance.”
What Stone Gate Residents Can Expect
Crews from Accurate Meter & Supply, easily identifiable by their official badges, are scheduled to conduct installations Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The meter replacement process will temporarily interrupt water service, typically for 15 to 30 minutes.
Homeowners are not required to be present for the installation. However, after installation, it's recommended that residents flush their water lines by running cold water for 3 to 5 minutes to ensure optimal water quality.

Advanced Features: Leak Detection and Real-Time Usage Tracking
Once the smart meters are in place, Stone Gate residents will gain access to EyeOnWater, a suite of consumer tools that includes a secure website and a mobile app for both iOS and Android. These tools will allow homeowners to:
- View real-time water usage
- Access user-friendly graphs and reports
- Set up custom alerts for unusual activity, including potential leaks
This enhanced transparency helps households take control of their water use, reduce waste, and detect costly plumbing issues early.
Will My Water Bill Go Up?
According to Remington MUD #1, some residents may notice a change in their water bill. “Because older meters may have under-recorded usage, newer meters could reflect higher consumption,” officials explained. This isn’t an increase in rates, but rather a more accurate capture of actual water usage.
Questions and Support
Residents with questions or concerns about the project are encouraged to contact Inframark, the District’s Operator, at 281-579-4500. For after-hours support, including holidays and weekends, residents can reach Inframark’s dispatch service.
