Shipley Do-Nuts Set to Sweeten Elyson with New Store Opening in 2025
The Elyson community is poised to welcome another popular dining spot, Shipley Do-Nuts, at 7016 Elyson Exchange Way, Cypress, TX 77433. The shop, which will be located near the forthcoming H-E-B and the existing Target store in Elyson at FM 529 and Grand Parkway, will be a sweet addition to the rapidly developing area. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) reveals that construction will commence at the end of January 2025, with a completion date anticipated around mid-April.
Shipley Do-Nuts is not just a brand - it's a legendary part of Houston history that stretches back over eight decades. When Lawrence Shipley released his signature glazed do-nut in 1936, locals fell head over heels. The pioneer do-nut was birthed in the Shipley's modest kitchen while Lawrence’s wife, Lillie, meticulously followed his gourmet recipe while balancing their infant son, Lawrence Jr., on her knee.
The welcoming aroma of hot, fresh, handcrafted do-nuts soon became a staple in local households. Starting with sales in the wholesale market at just 5¢ a dozen, Lawrence went on to establish the first Shipley Do-Nuts store in Houston in the mid-1940s. As Lawrence had predicted, the allure of the hot do-nut seduced Houstonians, drawing them back time and again. To this day, the plain glazed donut remains a crowd favorite, although customers are spoiled for choice with over 60 varieties to explore.

Lawrence Jr., who grew up alongside the thriving family business, dedicated his life to carrying forward his father's vision. During his tenure, he broadened the spectrum of offerings by introducing delicious kolaches to the menu and significantly expanded the business footprint. What began as a humble family venture has grown exponentially to boast more than 330 locations across Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Texas.
