Shipley Do-Nuts Planned Near Granger Pines Along Highway 242 in Conroe
For residents of Granger Pines, an upcoming addition along the Highway 242 corridor may soon make the morning donut run a little shorter.
A Shipley Do-Nuts is planned for a 1,750-square-foot space in Shops at 1314 located at 14055 Highway 242, Suite 102, in Conroe, according to a Texas project filing. The filing describes the work as an interior leased-space build-out for a Shipley Donuts, with an estimated construction cost of $125,000.
Construction is currently listed to begin Aug. 31, 2026, with completion anticipated Oct. 12, 2026. Those dates describe the construction schedule in the filing and should not be considered a confirmed restaurant opening date.
For nearby neighborhoods, the project is another small but familiar sign of the commercial growth taking shape around Highway 242, where new retail, restaurants and services continue to follow residential development across the Conroe area.
A Houston donut tradition getting closer to home
Shipley is hardly a newcomer to Southeast Texas.
The company traces its roots to 1936, when Lawrence Shipley Sr. developed the original recipe for the hot, fresh, handcrafted donuts that became the foundation of the business. Shipley says its first retail shop opened in Houston in the mid-1940s after the donuts had initially been sold wholesale for just five cents a dozen.
Nearly 90 years later, the Houston-born chain remains closely associated with the region’s breakfast culture, particularly its classic glazed donut. Shipley says that variety remains its most popular, even as the menu has grown to include more than 60 donut varieties.
That history could make the planned Highway 242 shop feel less like the arrival of an unfamiliar chain and more like a well-known Texas breakfast stop moving closer to Granger Pines.
What Shipley Do-Nuts serves
At the center of the Shipley menu is the Classic Glazed, a light, yeast-raised donut that the company traditionally serves hot when available. The broader lineup includes chocolate-glazed and iced donuts, filled donuts, cake donuts, cinnamon rolls and other specialty selections, although individual menus can vary by location.
Shipley is also known throughout the Houston area for its savory breakfast offerings. Depending on the store, those can include sausage kolaches, sausage-and-cheese kolaches, jalapeño sausage-and-cheese varieties, ham and cheese, and breakfast versions made with egg, bacon or sausage.
Coffee is another part of the current menu, including Shipley’s traditional hot coffee and newer specialty beverages at participating locations.
What has long distinguished the brand, however, is its emphasis on donuts served fresh and warm. The company still ties that approach back to its founder and the original glazed recipe developed in Houston nearly nine decades ago.
Why the Highway 242 location matters locally
The planned shop would occupy a relatively compact 1,750-square-foot leased space, but its location could make it convenient for residents traveling Highway 242 between nearby neighborhoods, schools, workplaces and Interstate 45-area destinations.
For families in Granger Pines, that could translate into another nearby option for an early breakfast, a box of donuts for the office, kolaches before school or the occasional weekend treat.
The filing does not yet provide operating hours, a grand-opening date, drive-thru information or a location-specific menu. Those details may emerge closer to completion, and Shipley notes that menu offerings and pricing can differ from one store to another.
For now, what is clear is that one of Houston’s longest-running donut names is preparing for a new presence on Highway 242 — adding another recognizable breakfast option to a part of Conroe that continues to attract new businesses alongside residential growth.
