Shaping the Future of Land Conservation: Coastal Prairie Conservancy to Host Lands & Legacies Conference at George Ranch
This October, a gathering of like-minded individuals is set to become the focal point of land conservation and preservation efforts in Texas. The much-anticipated annual Lands & Legacies Conference, presented by the Coastal Prairie Conservancy (CPC) and partners, is scheduled for October 24th and 25th at The George Ranch in Richmond.
The Coastal Prairie Conservancy, formerly known as the Katy Prairie Conservancy, has been a leading force in land conservation since its inception in 1992. As a nationally accredited non-profit organization based in Houston, the CPC has successfully protected over 30,000 acres of coastal prairie, wetlands, farms, and ranches throughout southeastern Texas. Committed to fostering community connections with nature, the Conservancy has made significant strides in not just land conservation but also restoration and promoting public engagement through educational programs.
This year's Lands & Legacies Conference, which is a joint effort between the Texas Coastal Prairie Initiative (TCPI) and the Texas Grasslands and Savannas Initiative (TGSI), invites landowners, conservation partners, students, and everyone who has a love for prairies. It provides a crucial platform for these stakeholders to discuss and strategize the preservation of wide-open spaces in Texas. With a wide range of topics including conservation success stories, new conservation easement funding opportunities, and land management guidance for landowners, the conference aims to foster both knowledge exchange and practical engagement.
The two-day event begins with a series of presentations and workshops on October 24th, from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. Day two, October 25th, runs from 8 AM to 2 PM and includes field trips to remnant and restored prairies as well as working ranches and farms.
General admission for this event is priced at $68, with a discounted rate of $36 for students. Please note that these prices will increase after August 1st. Landowners are offered complimentary tickets and are encouraged to email information@coastalprairieconservancy.org to claim them.
More information about the conference and the registration process can be found on the Coastal Prairie Conservancy's website.
