
September at Maud Marks Branch Library: Storytimes, STEM, and Community Fun
Highland Trails families can look forward to a full calendar of free activities this September at the Maud Marks Branch Library in Katy, offering everything from preschool storytime and STEM workshops to cultural events and book clubs.
For more than three decades, the Maud Marks Branch Library has been a cornerstone of the Katy community, located at 1815 Westgreen Boulevard. Opened in 1993, the library honors Maud Smith Marks, a Katy teacher and community leader, and has built a reputation as a warm gathering place where education, culture, and connection come together for residents of all ages.
Highlights of September Programming
The month kicks off with Teen Advisory Board and Teen Time Craft on September 2, followed by a special Tween Time Craft on September 4. Other youth favorites include the Lego Challenge (September 9), After School Tabletop Games (September 11), Teen Anime Club (September 16), Pokémon Club (September 18), and both Teen and Tween Video Game Days later in the month .
Families with younger children can enjoy a variety of storytimes, including Read & Rhyme Storytime on Tuesdays, Totally Toddler Time on Thursdays, and Preschool Explorers sessions. A special treat this month will be the Classical Sing, Move and Play Storytime on September 16, featuring opera singers Alisa and Alejandro Magallón leading “Music of Mexico” songs for children and families .

Adults are also invited to take part in unique experiences. Board Silly for Adults on September 22 promises laughter and friendly competition, while book lovers can join the Booked This Afternoon discussion group on September 11 to talk about Of Women and Salt by Gabriela Garcia. The Timeless Travelers program for seniors (55+) heads to the historic Crighton Theatre on September 12 for A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. Registration runs August 25–30 .
Technology and makerspace enthusiasts will find workshops and orientations throughout the month, including Cricut Orientation (September 5), Code & Create: Binary Bracelets! (September 6), Thriving as a STEM Major (September 13), 3D Printer Orientation (September 15), and Laser Cutter Orientation (September 17). A hands-on DIY Workshop: Wall Organizer takes place on September 9 .
The library’s annual Friends of the Maud Marks Library Book Sale returns September 27, with an early members-only preview on September 26. Shoppers can browse bargain-priced hardbacks, children’s books, and hidden treasures, with proceeds supporting library programs .
