Saunders Brings High-Tech Manufacturing to Cypress with New Facility at Weiser Business Park
What was once a runway for small aircraft is now home to a new chapter in industrial manufacturing. Saunders, a division of California-based R.S. Hughes Company, opened its new Houston-area facility on June 2 in Cypress’s Weiser Business Park—a development built on the grounds of the former Weiser Airpark.
The move marks a full relocation of Saunders’ operations from Lombard, Illinois, bringing advanced converting capabilities and roughly 15 long-term jobs to the Houston area. The new 14639 Fallbrook Drive location in northwest Harris County is the company’s second dedicated manufacturing site, alongside its facility in Irwindale, California.
From Flight Path to Business Hub
The Weiser Airpark was once a local landmark, serving small aircraft and hobby pilots for decades. Since its closure in 2019, the property has undergone a complete transformation. Now known as Weiser Business Park, the site has attracted a steady stream of logistics and industrial tenants, including Amazon, DHL, and Hirsch Pipe & Supply.
Its redevelopment reflects broader growth trends in the Cypress area, where improved access to major highways like U.S. 290 and Beltway 8 has made it a sought-after location for commercial expansion. Saunders’ arrival adds to that momentum, establishing a new presence in a part of the Greater Houston Area that has evolved rapidly from its rural past.

What Saunders Does
Saunders is a converting division of R.S. Hughes Company, Inc., which was founded in 1954 and distributes industrial and safety products across North America and Costa Rica. The Saunders division has been part of the company since 1959, focusing on engineered solutions for industries like transportation, medical devices, aerospace, electronics, and general manufacturing.
At its core, Saunders specializes in custom-engineered converting services. That includes:
- Die-cutting, which allows for the precise cutting of materials into specific shapes
- Laminating, combining different materials into layered structures
- Slitting, which trims materials into narrow rolls or widths
- Packaging and assembly, offering end-to-end production solutions
These services are often used in highly technical applications where exact measurements and specialized materials are essential. The new Cypress facility is expected to enhance the company’s ability to meet demand across the U.S., Mexico, and Costa Rica by reducing lead times and increasing production capacity.

A Move Designed for Growth
Saunders leaders said the transition from Illinois to Texas was handled with care to avoid disruptions for customers or vendor partners. Though relatively modest in job numbers, the move is considered a strategic one for the company as it looks to scale its services in the years ahead.
“This move reflects our ongoing commitment to serving customers and partners with greater efficiency, innovation and scale,” said Daniel Bonnaud, General Manager of Saunders. “Our new Houston facility will significantly boost our production capacity, shorten lead times and strengthen support.”
Sales Manager Arturo Nunez emphasized the benefit of being located in a fast-growing business environment. “Houston’s dynamic business environment and strategic location further enhance our ability to deliver best-in-class service, expertise and tailored solutions,” he said.
With its doors now open, the Cypress facility becomes a key piece of R.S. Hughes’ nationwide network—providing converting services to clients in demanding industries that rely on precision and customization.
