Recreation Area Lighting Upgrade Coming to Williamsburg Settlement

Recreation Area Lighting Upgrade Coming to Williamsburg Settlement

November 06 2023

Our tennis players will be delighted to learn that their lobbying over the last few years for improved lighting of the tennis courts has paid off! The Board has signed a $73,640 contract with the J. Nicholas Construction company to replace the existing HID lamps on our tennis courts, basketball court, pool area and car park with state-of-the-art LED light fittings. The contract also includes the replacement of all the light poles, which was deemed advisable due to the age and deteriorating condition of the existing poles which were installed during the initial construction of our recreation facilities.

The equipment is now on order and the installation is scheduled to begin around the second week of December. To minimize inconvenience, work at the tennis courts will be phased so that a pair of courts will remain available for tennis play throughout the installation. Unfortunately, as the two pickleball courts are overlayed on one tennis court, pickleball play won’t be available for the estimated 7-day duration of the work on the rear pair of courts.

This contract was accepted after competitive bidding and the dollar amount was very close to that which had been reserved for this project.

To ensure that the Settlement remains attractive to both our existing owners and those looking to move here it is essential that our recreation facilities be maintained to the highest standards. This project is a major step in this ongoing process.
