Public Input Requested for City's Updated Hazard Mitigation Plan

April 10 2023

The City of Houston’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) leads the City’s efforts in planning for all types of emergencies, disasters, and hazards.  The Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) aims to identify the City’s major hazard risks, assess Houston’s vulnerability to those hazards, and identify actions to reduce vulnerability, and serves as a condition for receiving certain types of non-emergency disaster grants and assistance. FEMA requires that the City’s HMP be updated every five years.

Hazard mitigation planning reduces the risk to people and property and reduces the cost of recovering from a natural disaster. Mitigation efforts are most effective when they are based on a comprehensive, long-term HMP.

The City’s planning team has completed the draft update to the HMP. Click the button below to view the draft version of the Hazard Mitigation Plan by the City of Houston Office of Emergency Management (houstonoem.org).
