Protecting Your Health: How Harris County Residents Can Access Free or Low-Cost Vaccines Through Harris County Public Health Services

August 06 2024

As the national spotlight is cast on vaccinations during August, Harris County Public Health (HCPH) is joining the global call to action by emphasizing the vital role immunizations play in safeguarding individual and community health. August is recognized as National Immunization Awareness Month, a period dedicated to enhancing public understanding of vaccination benefits and combating vaccine-access issues that continue to trouble certain communities worldwide.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) hails vaccines as one of the most effective means to counter serious diseases. With the capacity to shield not only individuals but also communities from illnesses and potential outbreaks, vaccinations are an indispensable tool in managing global health.

In light of these benefits, HCPH is encouraging Harris County residents to check their immunization records and ensure they are up-to-date with recommended vaccines. By maintaining current vaccinations, residents can play a crucial part in bolstering the overall health safety net for their community.

HCPH is committed to providing a range of low-cost clinical services to Harris County residents, including immunizations. Eligibility for these services is contingent upon household size and family income, ensuring support for those most in need.

The Texas Vaccine for Children (TVFC) program is one such initiative, offering low-cost vaccines to eligible children up to 18 years old. Additionally, under the Adult Safety Net (ASN) program, individuals aged 19 or older without health insurance can take advantage of low-cost vaccines.

In addition to prioritizing human health, HCPH believes in the importance of keeping pets healthy, too. Through Harris County Pets (HCP), a range of immunizations are offered for dogs and cats. Community members can schedule an appointment for their pets by calling 281-999-3191 and pressing 1.

HCPH aims to make vaccinations accessible to all who need them, irrespective of their insurance status or financial capacity. To find out which immunizations are available at HCPH clinics, residents are encouraged to check HCPH's Immunizations and Vaccinations page. Learn more about HCPH's services and locations here. To schedule an appointment, they can call the Patient Appointment Call Center at 832-927-7350
