Protecting Our Community: Safety Tips Against Solicitors in Copperfield

Protecting Our Community: Safety Tips Against Solicitors in Copperfield

May 22 2024

This guidance has been provided by the Crime Watch Committee in Southdown Village of Copperfield.

After the storm that swept through our neighborhood, we will more than likely be inundated with solicitors and strangers placing advertisements on our doors. We need to ALWAYS approach every outsider to our neighborhood with caution.

Solicitation is not illegal in Harris County. Here are some tips to help us stay safe and to deter these individuals from entering our neighborhood:

  • Never open the door to a stranger.  Acknowledge that you are home by talking to them through your security system or through a window.
  • Post a “no solicitation” sign by your doorbell or on your front door.
  • Calling the non-emergency number is highly suggested by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The deputies can ask for the solicitors’s identification and make sure they are in the neighborhood for the purpose they state.

It is better to be safe than sorry.  “We take a neighborhood and make it a community."  Together we can make our neighborhood a safe place to live!

Remember:

  • Report ANYTHING suspicious to the  Harris County Sheriff's Office non-emergency number at 713-221-6000 (Option 6).
  • For a crime in progress, fire or a serious medical emergency, call 9-1-1.

Thank you for doing your part to help keep our neighborhood safe.
