Precinct 3 Enhances Student Safety with Installation of Flashing School Zone Signs in Spring ISD

November 10 2023

Commissioner Tom S. Ramsey’s Office is adding approximately 300 flashing school zone signs across 10 Precinct 3 school districts to enhance safety for children and their families during their commute to schools each day.

These traffic devices enhance safety around schools by alerting drivers with flashing lights within a school zone to slow down and pay attention to pedestrians in the area. They will be installed across public and private school zones across the Tomball, Klein, CyFair, Spring, Humble, Aldine, Crosby, Goose Creek, Huffman, and Channelview ISDs. Installation is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2024 with a total project cost of $2.5 million.

“Safety and infrastructure go hand-in-hand when you’re planning to enhance community roads,” said Commissioner Ramsey, who is also a licensed professional engineer of 40 years. “When you look at communities and think what all you can do to make it better, ensuring children make their way to and from schools each day safely should be at the forefront of where to start.”

Since Commissioner Ramsey took office in 2021, Precinct 3 has installed nearly 250 school zone flashing signs. School zone safety is a Precinct 3 top priority, which is reflected through ongoing studies and improvement projects near schools.
