Permit Reveals $50M Expansion Planned for Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital in Rapidly Growing Northwest Houston
Less than a year after the grand opening of the Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital, the facility is preparing for a significant $50 million expansion. According to a recently filed commercial building permit, the next phase of development will focus on interior buildouts across more than 82,000 square feet of patient care areas, including surgical, inpatient, and dialysis facilities.
The hospital, located at 24500 Northwest Fwy, Cypress, TX 77429, officially opened on March 17, 2025, introducing a new era of “phygital” healthcare to Cypress—merging cutting-edge technology with compassionate, hands-on care. And while the original 600,000-square-foot facility was designed with scalability in mind, few anticipated just how quickly that scalability would be needed.
“Since we opened Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital in March, we’ve seen amazing growth and a desire for additional services to meet the community’s needs,” said Paige Romanowski, spokesperson for Houston Methodist. “We are finalizing plans on various expansion projects at Cypress.”
What’s Coming in the Expansion
According to construction documents, this next phase—expected to begin on November 10, 2025 and wrap up by February 27, 2026—includes the following:
- Level 2: Operating Rooms (ORs) and Critical Care Unit (CCU) support areas
- Level 5: Dialysis suite
- Level 6: Medical Surgical (Med Surg) Inpatient floor and support areas
- Total square footage: 82,300 square feet
- Estimated cost: $50,000,000
- Type of work: Interior renovations and alterations
The scope of the project signals not only Houston Methodist’s long-term commitment to Cypress but also the region’s rising demand for advanced medical care.

A Rapid Rise to Healthcare Prominence in Northwest Houston
The March 2025 opening of Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital marked a historic milestone for Northwest Harris County. As the ninth hospital in the Houston Methodist system, the facility debuted with 100 beds, nine operating rooms, a full-service imaging suite, 18 emergency room beds, and a state-of-the-art childbirth center—with room to grow to 400 beds over time.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Nicholas Desai previously described the facility as a “phygital” hospital, referencing its seamless integration of physical and digital care. From AI-assisted surgeries and remote patient monitoring to robotic delivery systems and self-service kiosks, the hospital blends innovation with warmth—an approach that has clearly resonated with patients and families across the Cypress area.
What This Means for Cypress Residents
The expansion news comes as no surprise to local residents who have witnessed firsthand the community's exponential growth and increased healthcare needs. Cypress continues to be one of the fastest-growing suburban hubs in the Greater Houston area, attracting young families, retirees, and businesses alike. Healthcare systems have been working to keep pace with that growth.
With the expansion of surgical and inpatient services, more Cypress-area residents will soon be able to receive high-level care close to home—eliminating the need to travel to the Texas Medical Center for procedures or long-term treatment. The addition of a dedicated dialysis unit also addresses a growing need for chronic kidney care within the local population.
