Parade of Lights Returns to Cy-Fair: A Holiday Celebration Supporting Local Volunteer Firefighters

November 15 2024

The holiday season is about to get brighter in Cy-Fair, as the Parade of Lights makes its highly anticipated return on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 6:00 PM. This festive tradition, featuring local firefighters and their brightly lit fire trucks, will once again light up the streets of Northwest Houston, offering families an evening of joy and celebration.

The parade, which starts at Bear Creek United Methodist Church (16000 Rippling Water Dr.) and ends at Cy-Falls High School (Huffmeister and Tuckerton), is a community favorite, with fire trucks, apparatus, and vehicles decked out in dazzling lights and decorations. The highlight of the event? A special appearance from Santa Claus himself, sitting atop a fire engine, waving to the crowds and spreading holiday cheer to excited children.

“The Parade of Lights has been a beloved tradition for over 27 years,” said a spokesperson from the Texas Volunteer Firefighter Relief Fund (TVFFRF), the organization behind the event. “It’s not just a parade—it’s a celebration of our community, a chance for families to come together and experience the magic of the season. Plus, it's a wonderful opportunity to support our local volunteer firefighters.”

In addition to the spectacle of lights, the Parade of Lights serves an important purpose. The event raises funds for the Texas Volunteer Firefighter Relief Fund, which provides vital financial assistance to volunteer firefighters facing catastrophic events. These heroes, who give their time and energy to protect their communities, often need support in times of personal hardship. The funds raised from the parade help alleviate some of the financial burdens these brave individuals face when tragedy strikes.

The event is also an opportunity for surrounding fire departments to come together in a show of camaraderie. The Apparatus Muster will see fire departments competing for the title of "Best of the Best," adding a fun competitive element to the festivities.

“Our goal is to bring joy to families while also giving back to the men and women who keep our communities safe,” said Barbara Dorr, event coordinator for the TVFFRF. “Through the parade, we hope to raise both awareness and funds to assist volunteer firefighters in need. It’s a way for us to say ‘thank you’ for their tireless service and support them when they need it most.”

This year, the Texas Volunteer Firefighter Relief Fund is encouraging local businesses, organizations, and individuals to participate in the parade. If you’d like to be part of the fun, there’s still time to register your vehicle or float. Simply visit the TVFFRF website or email barbara.dorr@tvffrf.org for more information on how to join in the celebration.
