Nonprofit Dedicated to Providing Beds for Children in Need Ends 2023 with 60,000 Beds Delivered

December 29 2023

Heavenly Peace (SHP), the non-profit organization that focuses on providing beds for children in need, has made a significant achievement that exceeded its own expectations. As the year 2023 draws to a close, SHP has surpassed its goal of delivering 50,000 beds, having delivered an impressive 60,543 beds, a milestone that underscores the organization's unwavering commitment to its cause.

These numbers tell a compelling story of the impact of SHP's work. If all of these assembled beds were to be lined up from headboard to footboard, they would stretch the length of 77 miles. To help appreciate the scale of the accomplishment, Jordan Allen, executive director of SHP, elaborated, "15,667 football fields of total bed lumber, 890 miles of total bed lumber. If we were to line up all 178,699 beds delivered since 2012 it would stretch the length of 230 miles!"

Volunteers with the Sleep in Heavenly Peace Houston North chapter this year.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace has come a long way since its inception in 2012, with chapters across the country including one in the Cy-Fair area and one in Katy. Organizations like National Charity League, Cy-Fair Women's Club, Young Men's Service League and many other service-oriented groups, along with corporate volunteers and individuals, frequently lend a hand for the construction of beds through both chapters. Founded on the promise that "no kid sleeps on the floor in our town," SHP believes that a bed is a basic need for the proper physical, emotional, and mental support that a child needs.

As SHP continues to make strides in its mission, the organization is poised to open more chapters in different states, aiming to extend its reach and help even more children in need. For those interested in getting involved and supporting SHP's cause, more information can be found on their website at shpbeds.org.
