New Little Free Library Opens at Glazier Senior Center, Encouraging Literacy and Community
A big idea has taken root in a small wooden box at the Thomas A. Glazier Senior Education Center in West Houston. Thanks to a generous donation from the Houston Bar Association and the support of Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones, the center now hosts its very own Little Free Library—a simple yet powerful tool that invites community members to “take a book, leave a book” and promote literacy and connection.
Located at 16600 Pine Forest Lane, Houston, TX 77084, just minutes from Colonies, the new Little Free Library is more than just a book exchange. It’s a beacon of accessible education and shared knowledge, right in the heart of Precinct 4.
“This is about more than books—it’s about community,” said Commissioner Briones. “Expanding access to education in all its forms is essential, and Little Free Libraries help make that happen in a way that’s simple, joyful, and inclusive.”
What is a Little Free Library?
Little Free Libraries are small, front-yard or public-space book-sharing boxes that operate on a give-and-take system. The global nonprofit organization behind the movement, Little Free Library®, aims to expand book access for all and promote literacy through grassroots participation. Each library is registered and given a unique charter number, becoming part of a worldwide network of over 150,000 book exchanges. The organization’s motto, “Take a book. Share a book,” captures its community-driven spirit.
With its installation at the Glazier Center, the Little Free Library becomes a new opportunity for residents—especially seniors—to stay mentally active, share their favorite reads, and engage with neighbors.

A Community Hub for Seniors
The Glazier Senior Education Center has long been a hub for enrichment and social connection for Houston-area seniors. Opened in October 2010, the facility is a model of environmental sustainability. It features an ecological roof, rainwater recycling systems, and natural lighting, making it a healthy and eco-conscious place to learn and gather.
Named after Tom Glazier, a Houstonian and food company executive remembered for his deep commitment to volunteerism and community service, the center offers a broad mix of activities—ranging from Zumba and Bollywood dancing to choir, meditation, and seminars on wellness and lifelong learning.
Residents from across the Greater Houston area are welcome to stop by and explore the new Little Free Library, whether they’re donating a favorite novel or finding their next great read.
