New dd’s DISCOUNTS Planned for North Austin, Bringing More Budget-Friendly Shopping to Quail Creek Area

For many shoppers, finding a great deal is about more than saving a few dollars—it's about making family budgets stretch further without sacrificing quality. A new retail project planned for North Austin aims to do just that, with dd’s DISCOUNTS preparing to open a new location along Ohlen Road in the Quail Creek area.

State construction filings show that the retailer is investing approximately $850,000 to transform an existing commercial space at 1628 Ohlen Rd, Austin, TX 78758 into a new dd’s DISCOUNTS store. The project is expected to begin later this year and continue through spring 2027, bringing nearly 18,500 square feet of discount retail space to a well-traveled section of North Austin.

The addition comes as North Austin continues to attract new residents, businesses, and investment, creating increased demand for convenient shopping options that serve a wide range of household needs. For families looking to balance rising costs while still purchasing clothing, home goods, and everyday essentials, the arrival of another value-focused retailer could be welcome news.

A Retailer Built Around Affordability

While many shoppers are familiar with Ross Dress for Less, fewer realize that dd’s DISCOUNTS is part of the same parent company, Ross Stores, Inc., one of the nation's largest off-price retail operators.

The dd’s DISCOUNTS brand was created to focus on neighborhoods where affordability is especially important. The company has expanded steadily across Texas and other states, building a reputation for offering brand-name and fashion merchandise at prices significantly below those found at traditional department stores.

Inside a typical store, shoppers can find apparel for adults and children, footwear, accessories, beauty products, home décor, kitchen essentials, toys, luggage, and seasonal items. Much like other off-price retailers, inventory changes frequently, creating a shopping experience where customers never know exactly what they might discover on their next visit.

That rotating selection has helped the chain develop a loyal customer base among bargain hunters who enjoy searching for unexpected deals.

Why North Austin Matters

The Ohlen Road corridor sits within one of Austin's most established and diverse areas, serving neighborhoods that continue to see residential growth and redevelopment. As new housing and commercial projects emerge across North Austin, retailers are increasingly looking to establish a presence near the area's growing customer base.

A new dd’s DISCOUNTS location reflects confidence in the corridor's long-term potential. Retail investments of this kind often follow population growth and can help create a more convenient shopping environment for nearby residents who otherwise may need to travel farther for similar options.

For families preparing for back-to-school shopping, furnishing a new apartment, updating wardrobes, or simply looking for everyday bargains, the store could become another practical destination close to home.

Part of a Broader Retail Evolution

Austin's retail landscape continues to evolve as consumer preferences shift toward value-oriented shopping. In the Quail Creek area, discount retailers like Dollar Tree and The Salvation Army Thrift Store have seen strong interest from shoppers who are increasingly focused on stretching their purchasing power while still accessing recognizable brands and quality products.

The planned North Austin store reflects that trend while adding another national retailer to a corridor already serving thousands of residents each day.

Although an official opening date has not yet been announced, construction is expected to continue into 2027 before the store welcomes its first customers. As work progresses, local residents will be watching to see how the new retailer fits into the area's growing mix of businesses and services.

For a community that continues to attract new residents and investment, the project represents another sign of North Austin's ongoing growth—and another option for shoppers looking to make their dollars go further.
