New D-BAT Magnolia Baseball and Softball Training Facility Planned for FM 1488
Families with young baseball and softball players could soon have another year-round place to practice closer to home, with a new D-BAT Magnolia facility planned at 14668 FM 1488 in Magnolia, near Magnolia High School.
Construction information for the project describes a 14,850-square-foot indoor athletic facility representing an estimated $1 million investment. The one-story building is planned to include athletic training space, a pro shop, offices and restrooms, giving the Magnolia area a new dedicated destination for baseball and softball development.
Construction is currently scheduled to begin Nov. 20, 2026, with completion targeted for Nov. 1, 2027. Those dates represent the current project timeline and could change as construction progresses.
For Magnolia-area families accustomed to practices, lessons, tournament schedules and drives to training facilities elsewhere in the Houston region, the project is notable for what it could bring closer to home: an indoor, weather-independent setting built specifically around baseball and softball.
What Is Planned for D-BAT Magnolia?
The new construction is described as a pre-engineered metal building, or PEMB, with a sprinkler system and one story of indoor athletic space.
Plans call for a 14,850 square feet of space to accommodate an indoor athletic training areas, a pro shop, office space, and restrooms. The project is planned for 14668 FM 1488, Magnolia, TX 77354, placing it along one of the area's primary commercial corridors.
The construction documents do not yet provide a proposed opening date, number of batting cages, membership prices, operating hours or a specific lineup of lessons and camps for the Magnolia academy. Those details would typically come closer to the facility's opening.
What Families Can Typically Find at D-BAT
D-BAT specializes in indoor baseball and softball development, and its academies are designed to give players a place to work on their game throughout the year rather than depending solely on outdoor fields and favorable weather.
The company's current offerings include batting cages using real baseballs and softballs, private lessons with professional instructors, camps and clinics, cage rentals, memberships and pro shops. D-BAT says it offers more than 50 camps and clinics annually across its academy model, although programs can vary by location.
Its facilities are also designed as climate-controlled training environments where parents can remain involved while young athletes practice and receive instruction.
For local players, that model could make D-BAT Magnolia useful for everything from Little League and recreational softball preparation to more advanced individual instruction, depending on the programming eventually announced for the FM 1488 location.
D-BAT Started in North Texas
The Magnolia project also brings another Texas-grown sports concept into Montgomery County.
D-BAT was founded in 1998 by brothers Cade and Kyle Griffis, beginning with a facility in Addison after Cade Griffis had traveled to different communities providing private instruction. The founders' original goal was to create an indoor facility capable of providing individualized baseball and softball training in a professional setting.
The name D-BAT stands for Developing Beliefs, Attitudes & Traditions, reflecting the company's emphasis on player development beyond simply providing batting cages.
What began as one North Texas academy eventually developed into a franchise system. D-BAT's current history says the network has grown to more than 170 locations, making the planned Magnolia academy part of a much larger baseball and softball training footprint.
Texas already has numerous D-BAT academies, including locations in communities across the Houston region and elsewhere in the state.
Rawlings and Easton Are Part of the D-BAT Model
Another feature families may recognize when the Magnolia facility takes shape is D-BAT's partnership with two major names in baseball and softball equipment.
Through D-BAT Powered by Rawlings and Easton, participating academy pro shops can offer equipment from both brands, including bats, gloves and accessories. Players can also test certain equipment inside D-BAT batting cages before making a purchase.
The Magnolia construction plans specifically include a pro shop, although the exact inventory and retail offerings for the new location have not yet been announced.
Why the FM 1488 Location Matters for Magnolia Families
Youth sports can quietly consume a large share of a family's weekly calendar. Practices, private instruction, batting sessions and weekend tournaments often mean considerable driving, particularly for families whose children want additional training beyond what their school or recreational team provides.
That is where a new indoor baseball and softball facility in Magnolia could have its most immediate community impact.
A local academy along FM 1488 could give players another option for batting practice and skill development without having to travel as far into other parts of Montgomery County or the Houston area. Climate-controlled indoor training can also be particularly useful during Southeast Texas summers, periods of heavy rain and the occasional cold stretch when outdoor practice becomes difficult.
The location could serve players from Magnolia as well as families in surrounding communities who already travel the FM 1488 corridor.
It also adds another youth-oriented recreational business to a part of Montgomery County that continues to attract new residents, services and commercial investment.
What Happens Next
If the current schedule holds, construction on D-BAT Magnolia will begin in November 2026 and continue for nearly a year, with the building targeted for completion in November 2027.
A completion date is not necessarily the same as a public opening date. The business would still need to finish preparations such as equipment installation, staffing, programming and other opening requirements before welcoming customers.
For now, however, the filing provides Magnolia baseball and softball families with their clearest indication yet that a substantial new indoor training facility is headed to FM 1488.
