New Charity Home Breaks Ground in Bluestem Near Katy to Benefit Local Veterans and Families in Need

February 03 2025

A new home is taking shape in the Bluestem community, thanks to a collaboration between First America Homes, The Signorelli Company, and the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA). The project, part of the GHBA’s annual Benefit Homes Project, will generate funds for local charities HomeAid Houston and Operation Finally Home.

This initiative, now in its 45th year, aims to support organizations that provide housing solutions for veterans and individuals at risk of homelessness. The new home, expected to be listed at $368,591, will contribute to both causes, with most of the proceeds directed to them after the home is sold.

Scott Merovitch, chair of the GHBA’s Benefit Homes Project, highlighted the teamwork behind the effort. “It takes a significant amount of resources and collaboration to make a project like this happen, and we’re grateful for the contributions of all involved,” Merovitch said.

The home will be built by First America Homes in Bluestem, a master-planned community located in Brookshire, Texas, about 20 minutes northwest of Katy. The community, which began home sales in 2024, offers residents a range of amenities, including a playground, walking trails, and recreational spaces.

Danny Signorelli, CEO of The Signorelli Company, spoke about the importance of such projects for the community. “This is an opportunity to contribute to the greater good,” Signorelli said. “We’re glad to be part of an effort that will benefit those in need.”

The home, a five-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath layout from the Heritage Collection, will feature modern design elements, including a spacious covered patio, luxury master bath, and custom outdoor kitchen. First America Homes worked with its trade partners to ensure that the home would meet the needs of prospective buyers while contributing to the charity effort.

“This is another chance for us to give back,” said Dave Barnhart, president of First America Homes. “Working with HomeAid Houston and supporting our local community has always been a priority, and the Benefit Homes Project provides a great opportunity to expand that impact.”

The Bluestem community, located on a 365-acre site, is positioned for future growth, with developments such as a new nearby Amazon facility expected to bring more residents to the area. Construction on the charity home is expected to finish in Fall 2025, and the sale will help provide continued support to the charities involved.

As the project moves forward, the home will serve as a reminder of how collaborative efforts can support long-term community impact, with the funds raised benefiting veterans, first responders, and those in need of transitional housing.
