New Caney Residents Invited to Help Shape Future 200-Acre Community Park Through EMCID Survey
As East Montgomery County continues to experience rapid growth, community leaders are asking residents to help determine what one of the area's largest future public parks should look like.
The East Montgomery County Improvement District (EMCID) is currently collecting public input through an online survey to help shape plans for a new park that will eventually become part of a larger 200-acre recreational and conservation project in New Caney. Officials say feedback gathered now will directly influence future planning decisions, recreational amenities, and a grant application being prepared for the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.
For families in New Caney, Porter, Splendora, and surrounding East Montgomery County communities, the survey offers an opportunity to help decide how public green space is preserved and developed as the area continues to expand. Residents have until June 26, 2026, to participate.
Community Input Will Help Determine Future Park Amenities
The survey asks residents to rank a variety of potential recreational features based on their importance to their household and community.
Among the amenities being considered are:
- Playground equipment
- Walking and bicycle trails
- Picnic facilities
- Exercise stations
- Open natural areas
- Gathering pavilions
- Fishing opportunities
- Disc golf
- Skate parks
- Pump tracks
- Pollinator gardens
- Primitive camping
- Elevated trails or canopy walks
- ADA-accessible recreational facilities
- Parking and restroom facilities
Participants are also encouraged to provide additional comments and suggestions regarding future outdoor recreation needs in East Montgomery County.
Supporting Recreation While Preserving Green Space
According to EMCID and project officials, the survey serves several purposes beyond simply collecting opinions.
Community feedback will help ensure the future park reflects local priorities while also strengthening EMCID's application for funding assistance through the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. Public participation is often an important component of state park grant applications because it demonstrates community support and demand for recreational facilities.
Officials have also emphasized the importance of preserving green space as development continues throughout East Montgomery County. Much of the property being considered for the project lies within a floodplain, making it particularly well-suited for recreational and conservation uses rather than residential or commercial development.
By preserving natural areas while adding recreational amenities, the project aims to balance growth with quality-of-life investments that benefit current and future residents.
Part of a Larger Vision for East Montgomery County
The proposed park is expected to be developed on approximately 64 acres within a larger 200-acre tract located along FM 1485 near Gene Campbell Road in New Caney.
While concepts such as trails, gardens, nature-based recreation, and family-friendly amenities have been discussed, officials say final plans have not yet been determined. The survey is intended to help identify which features residents value most before those decisions are made.
As East Montgomery County's population continues to grow, leaders say understanding community preferences now will help ensure future investments align with the needs of local families, outdoor enthusiasts, seniors, and residents of all abilities.
