Neighbors Helping Neighbors: Volunteer with Tomball Emergency Assistance Ministries

Tomball Emergency Assistance Ministries (TEAM) is seeking members of the community to help support their many programs through volunteerism. Between the TEAM food pantry, resale shop, assistance ministry, administrative office and events, there are always plenty of opportunities to lend a hand.

Did you know that there are psychological, science-based benefits of volunteering? According to Harris County Public Health, volunteering can have a significant effect on your own health. Research presented by the Corporation for National and Community Service shows a strong relationship between volunteering and health: Those who volunteer have lower mortality rates, greater functional ability, and lower rates of depression later in life than those who do not volunteer.

Since 1985, TEAM has been operating as a as a nonprofit organization after 13 Tomball churches joined together to help those in need within the Tomball community. As the population has grown since TEAM's inception, so have the demands for assistance. TEAM serves clients in the Tomball, Texas zip codes, the Tomball school district, and members of 20 TEAM sponsoring churches. In addition to the health benefits of volunteering, it can also provide a sense of purpose and meaning in volunteers' lives. According to Harris County Public Health, volunteering helps to broaden social networks, which can have many positive effects like creating new relationships. Furthermore, volunteering provides opportunities for social interactions with fellow volunteers while supporting an important activity in the community.
