National Night Out in Harvest Bend: Host a Porch-Side Get-Together and Help Make Our Neighborhood Safer

September 03 2025

As the countdown begins to National Night Out (NNO) on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, Harvest Bend is encouraging residents to turn on their porch lights, step outside, and reconnect with the people who live next door. The HOA is supporting neighbor-hosted meetups this year with a reimbursement of up to $50 for hamburgers and hot dogs when you invite your street or cul-de-sac to gather for NNO.

At its heart, National Night Out is about knowing your neighbors—because strong connections make a safer, kinder community. A quick hello on the sidewalk, a shared meal, or lending a hand can ease isolation, build trust, and create a network of support that’s right outside your door.

How to Participate

  • Choose a simple gathering spot: a driveway, front yard, or pocket park.
  • Invite the block: a flyer, text thread, or a friendly knock works.
  • Ask guests to bring a contribution: sides, drinks, or dessert are perfect complements to the main dish.
  • Email to join in: If you plan to participate or host, email stephanie.s@harvestbend.org.
  • Host Support: The HOA will reimburse up to $50 for hamburgers and hot dogs for NNO gatherings hosted by Harvest Bend residents. (Save your receipt to submit after the event; basic details of your get-together and proof of purchase are typically requested.)

Why These Small Gatherings Matter

Neighbors who know each other are more likely to look out for one another, share resources, and spot issues early. That sense of connection enhances safety and situational awareness on the block, reduces isolation by supporting mental and emotional well-being, builds a network of support during everyday needs or emergencies, and creates lifelong friendships while fostering a welcoming culture for new families.

Simple, Neighborly Ideas for Your NNO

  • Keep it easy: burgers and hot dogs on the grill; guests bring chips, fruit, or cookies.
  • Kid-friendly touches: chalk art, sidewalk games, bike parade, or bubble station.
  • Conversation starters: name tags, “How long have you lived here?” cards, or a “swap table” for gently used books and puzzles.
  • Safety moment: share porch-light reminders, emergency contacts, and a neighborhood text chain.
