Morton Ranch High School Football Standouts Sign on Katy ISD National Signing Day
At Morton Ranch High School, National Signing Day centered on a strong senior football class prepared to take the next step.
After a 2025–2026 football season defined by rebuilding and transition under first-year head coach Nick Cavallo, five Mavericks seniors officially signed National Letters of Intent, extending their playing careers to the collegiate level and helping set the tone for the program’s next chapter.
A Season of Growth in District 19-6A
Competing in the highly competitive District 19-6A (Region III), Morton Ranch finished the season 3–7 overall and 2–6 in district play, placing seventh. While the record reflected the challenges of a new system and roster adjustments, the Mavericks showed measurable progress following a winless 2024 campaign.
The season opened with a narrow 27–29 loss to Aldine Nimitz and included a 44–37 non-district win over Magnolia West. In district competition, Morton Ranch earned victories over Katy Taylor (24–17) and capped the season with a 10–9 win over Katy Seven Lakes — a defensive battle that provided momentum heading into the offseason.
Coach Cavallo, supported by coordinators Donald Mackey and James Janczak, emphasized building a high-motor culture. Senior wide receiver Tyler Williams, a 6'4" target, played a key offensive role, while defensive back Denrie Hamilton anchored the secondary. Quarterback Jayceon Jenkins gained valuable experience that will carry into his senior season.

Morton Ranch High School College Signees
Against that backdrop of growth and transition, six seniors formalized their college commitments:
- Lorenzo Bridges (Football) — East Texas Baptist University
- Simeon Fontenette (Football) — Hardin-Simmons University
- Douglas Hammond (Football) — Texas Lutheran University
- Tyler Williams (Football) — Trinity Valley Community College
- Jaylon Wilson (Football) — Hardin-Simmons University
For these athletes, Signing Day represents both personal achievement and the culmination of leadership during a pivotal year for the program.
“This is what commitment looks like,” Katy ISD Executive Director of Athletics Lance Carter said. “These student-athletes have put in the early mornings, the extra reps and the classroom work. Signing Day is more than a ceremony — it is the reward for years of discipline and the beginning of an exciting new chapter.”
What It Means for the Mavericks
For Morton Ranch High School and the broader Katy ISD community, the signings signal continued opportunity even during transitional seasons. The graduating seniors leave behind a foundation for rising leaders like Jenkins and others preparing for the 2026–2027 season.
As the Mavericks look ahead to offseason training and spring preparation, National Signing Day serves as both recognition and reminder: progress often unfolds one season at a time.
