Montgomery County Food Bank’s 2026 Outrun Hunger Run Returns to Conroe With 8K, 5K and Color Dash Supporting Local Families
As Montgomery County continues to grow at one of the fastest rates in the nation, local organizations are working to ensure families, seniors and children are not left behind when it comes to access to food. This summer, one of the community’s largest hunger-relief fundraisers will once again bring neighbors together in Conroe to help meet that need.
Montgomery County Food Bank’s annual 2026 Outrun Hunger event is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, at The Lake House at Grand Central Park in Conroe. The family-friendly event will feature a timed 8K trail run and 5K trail run/walk along with a colorful 1K Color Dash designed for participants of all ages and experience levels.
More than just a race, organizers say the event represents a countywide effort to support families facing food insecurity across Montgomery County.
According to Montgomery County Food Bank, every dollar raised through the event can provide up to four meals for local residents in need. Registration fees alone are expected to translate into thousands of meals for neighbors across the county.
The event will run from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. at The Lake House at Grand Central Park, located at 1039 Lake House Drive in Conroe. Participants can register individually or as teams.
How the 2026 Outrun Hunger Event Supports Montgomery County Families
The timed 8K Trail Run/Walk begins at 7:45 a.m. and includes dirt and grass-running trails, participant medals and event T-shirts. Organizers estimate the $70 registration fee can provide up to 280 meals for residents facing hunger.
The timed 5K Trail Run/Walk, also beginning at 7:45 a.m., offers a similar trail experience and is expected to help provide up to 220 meals through each $55 registration.
Families looking for a more relaxed and colorful experience can participate in the untimed 1K Color Dash beginning at 9 a.m. The $30 registration fee is estimated to provide up to 120 meals.
Throughout the morning, attendees can also enjoy music, food trucks, children’s activities, photo opportunities and community gathering spaces at the event’s Party Pavilion.
Early bird pricing remains available through May 13, 2026.
Participants are also encouraged to create personal fundraising pages to further support Montgomery County Food Bank programs serving children, seniors, veterans and families.
Hunger Relief Needs Continue to Grow Across Montgomery County
The event comes as food insecurity remains a growing challenge across the region.
According to Montgomery County Food Bank’s 2025 Impact Report, more than 100,000 Montgomery County residents are considered food insecure, including more than 30,000 children and approximately one in 10 seniors.
The report also notes that Montgomery County is now the seventh-fastest-growing county in the nation, increasing pressure on local nonprofit resources and hunger-relief systems.
Established in 1985, Montgomery County Food Bank serves as the county’s primary hunger-relief organization, working through a network of more than 90 partner agencies and over 60 schools across all six Montgomery County school districts.
In 2025 alone, the nonprofit provided nearly 10 million nutritious meals to local residents through food pantries, mobile markets, school distributions, senior programs and veteran-focused food assistance initiatives.
The organization also reported that neighbors turned to the food bank more than 90,000 times each month during 2025.
Its programs include backpack food assistance for children, mobile food distributions serving high-need areas, and senior grocery deliveries throughout Montgomery County. The food bank additionally partners with retailers and wholesalers to rescue surplus food that would otherwise go to landfills.
Fresh produce represented 55% of all nutritious food distributed through Montgomery County Food Bank programs in 2025, according to the organization’s impact report.
A Community-Wide Effort to Fight Hunger in Conroe and Montgomery County
Montgomery County Food Bank leaders say community support continues to be essential as demand rises.
In its 2025 Impact Report, the organization described 2025 as a milestone year, marking 40 years of service while also responding to record-breaking need during periods of federal assistance disruption.
The nonprofit recently completed its “Build Today, Feed Tomorrow” expansion project, adding 18,000 square feet to its facility and increasing capacity by an estimated one million meals annually.
The organization now works alongside 97 partner agencies distributing food across Montgomery County.
Volunteer involvement also continues to play a major role in operations. More than 9,300 volunteers contributed over 61,000 service hours during 2025, resulting in more than $2 million in contributed services.
For many families, those efforts provide stability during difficult seasons.
The food bank’s impact report shares the story of the Tull family, who relied on one of Montgomery County Food Bank’s partner agencies after health challenges affected household income. “This community takes care of each other,” the report states while describing how local support helped the family continue gathering around the dinner table together.
