MLK Day: A Day of Service Close to Home
On MLK Day, organizations, groups and individuals across the nation will enjoy a federal holiday in honor of the late Martin Luther King, Jr. This day off from work and school is far more than being an extension of the weekend; it is an opportunity to serve.
As the only federal holiday declared by Congress as a National Day of Service, MLK Day provides a unique opportunity that honors the profound legacy of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This landmark holiday emerged as a symbol of progress, initiated by the U.S. Census Bureau's commitment to fair and open elections for all citizens, irrespective of race.
Observed every year on January 15, MLK Day pays tribute to the transformative impact Martin Luther King Jr. had on voting rights, volunteerism, education, and economic advancement. This year, the Cy-Fair community has many opportunities to serve on MLK Day right here in your community.
