Memorial Bench Dedicated to Liz Barraza at Burroughs Park as Community Seeks Justice
A new memorial bench at Burroughs Park now serves as a solemn tribute to Elizabeth "Liz" Barraza, a Tomball woman who was murdered in her driveway in 2019. The dedication marks the first installation of the We Remember Memorial Project, a collaboration between Crime Stoppers of Houston and Harris County Precinct 3. The initiative aims to honor victims of violent crime while keeping attention on unsolved cases.
Liz Barraza’s life was cut short on the morning of January 25, 2019, as she prepared for a garage sale to raise money for an anniversary trip. Surveillance footage captured the moment she was fatally shot, but despite years of investigation, no arrests have been made. A $50,000 reward remains available for information leading to an arrest.
“This is a place of peace and beauty in a park that we frequented when Liz was alive,” said her father, Bob Nuelle. “It gives her friends and family a special place where we can go when we need to feel her presence.”
The We Remember Memorial Project will place similar memorials in select parks throughout Precinct 3, each dedicated to a homicide victim whose case remains unresolved. The goal is not only to provide a place of remembrance for grieving families but also to keep the victims’ stories in the public eye, in hopes that new information will emerge.
