Meet Your Local Fire Department: How Community VFD Got Started and How They Serve You
Serving the areas of Grand Lakes, Canyon Gate, selected portions of Cinco Ranch, Lost Creek, Lakemont, and other neighborhoods in the immediate area, the Community Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD) holds a high reputation for passion, bravery, and selfless service.
Community VFD History
Established in April 1971, the department started its journey with a fire engine borrowed from the City of Houston Fire Department, housed in a service station at the intersection of Bissonnet Street and Boone Road.
Through tireless efforts, the department members handcrafted their first fire station near the same intersection within the year, financed by funds collected from door-to-door donations. Today, we honor and respect these founding members for their hard work and determination, which has propelled CVFD to great heights.
Proudly serving approximately 150,000 residents in the unincorporated portions of Southwestern Harris County and Northeastern Fort Bend County, such as Alief, Mission Bend, and Cinco Ranch, Community Volunteer Fire Department has grown significantly since inception. Their dedicated Community Education Team is steadfastly committed to increasing awareness about fire safety and emergency preparedness in our community.
Community Outreach
Community VFD offers a multitude of educational courses and resources, directed towards enhancing the safety of residents. CPR Courses, 'Stop the Bleed' classes, Fire Extinguisher Trainings, and Fire Safety Presentations form a part of their offering, aimed at empowering community members to respond effectively to emergencies.
Are you interested in learning life-saving skills? CPR Courses, based on the American Heart Association (AHA) curriculum, can help you save a life out of the 350,000+ cardiac arrests that occur outside of hospitals annually. The 'Stop the Bleed' initiative is another brilliant program, encouraging participants to learn basic bleeding control, empowering them to act swiftly and confidently in an emergency before professional help arrives. Community VFD also trains groups in Fire Extinguisher operations through hands-on classes, where staff discuss different types of fires and the appropriate extinguisher to control them. Their Fire Safety Presentations aim to equip the community with the necessary knowledge and skills to protect themselves during fire hazards and emergencies.
Your local fire department eagerly welcomes opportunities to hold demonstrations for schools, community groups, and organizations, providing insightful fire safety and preparedness tips, and showcasing their equipment. Community VFD can even arrange for an in-service fire truck to visit your public event upon your request!
