Meet Davenport High’s Beloved Wolves: Inside the World of Mascots Willy and Wilson
At Davenport High School, school spirit doesn't just roar—it howls. Meet Willy and Wilson, the two iconic wolf mascots energizing the sidelines, rallying the crowds, and representing the heart and humor of DHS. Behind the fur suits are Drew Dimmitt, an 11th grader, and Jackson Kotowski, a 9th grader, who together make up the dynamic mascot duo proudly waving the flag for the Davenport Wolves.
The story of how these students stepped into the paws of Willy and Wilson is as spirited as the mascots themselves. Drew, who portrays Willy, shared that his journey began back in middle school. “My 7th grade year I attended a Davenport basketball game, and while watching the game, I noticed the cheerleaders having to be the mascot. As a joke, I went up to the cheer coach and asked if I could try out the mascot suit. To my surprise she said sure! From that point forward I have been Willy the Wolf! I intend to also pursue being the mascot in college.”
Jackson, who plays Wilson, took a slightly different route. “My interest in being the mascot began in 8th grade. Although it was not as on the spot as Drew (Willy), I did the Universal Cheerleaders Associate (UCA) mascot camp at Texas State over the summer, liked it, and have been the Davenport mascot ever since!”
As mascots, Willy and Wilson embody different sides of the school spirit spectrum. “Willy represents all that Davenport is; He is the hype-man for the school and will do anything to proudly support any sport!” said Drew. Meanwhile, Jackson explained, “Wilson is more of the fun-loving side of Davenport, representing the students who don’t take anything too seriously and just want to have fun.”
Being the mascot for a high school like Davenport isn’t all just dancing and waving—it comes with real challenges and commitment. “The heat! It is 20 degrees hotter in our suits,” said Drew. “Especially during those August/September games, it can cause us to lose a lot of fluids in our body. To combat this we wear ice vests and take frequent breaks.” Jackson admitted the younger fans can sometimes pose their own challenge. “I am not the best with little kids, so managing when they follow you around and want to touch you can be stressful.”

Even with the pressures, both students are active in other school activities—Drew plays in the band and Jackson is on the wrestling team. Still, they both make time to bring joy and energy to the school community through their mascot roles.
Drew highlighted his proudest moment as participating in the national Citrus Bowl as an All-American mascot. “I crushed it and had so much fun meeting all the other mascots!” he said. Jackson noted that this season’s playoff games have stood out as his own highlight.
When asked about the legacy they hope to leave at Davenport, both students emphasized their desire to inspire others. “I hope to make the mascot look as fun as possible,” said Drew. “I’ve seen other schools not have a mascot because no one will try out, so I wanna make the mascot look like it is the coolest thing you can do and to not be intimidated by the suit.” Jackson added, “Try and get more people involved with being the mascot… it is a very fun experience and is important to the heart of our school.”
From football fields to pep rallies, Willy and Wilson are more than just symbols—they’re living, dancing, high-fiving ambassadors of school pride in the Comal Independent School District and throughout the Canyon Lake area. With each playful tail wag and energetic performance, they leave a lasting impression on the Davenport community and remind everyone why school spirit matters.
Whether you're a parent searching for “Davenport High School mascot,” a student wondering how to become a school mascot, or just a fan of high school sports traditions in Texas, Willy and Wilson’s story proves there’s plenty to cheer about at DHS.
