MD Anderson Cancer Center Expands Reach with the Opening of Northwest Houston Surgical and Specialty Care Facility
In a significant stride towards enhancing cancer care accessibility, MD Anderson proudly inaugurated the MD Anderson Cancer Center Northwest Houston Surgical and Specialty Care on December 4.
Nestled 30 miles north and west of MD Anderson's Texas Medical Center Campus, this state-of-the-art facility, located near Cypress and Tomball, occupies a sprawling 80,000 square feet on 4.4 acres. The establishment of this center marks a crucial milestone, bringing world-class outpatient surgery services closer to the residents of Northwest Houston, Cypress, Tomball, and the surrounding areas.
For over eight decades, MD Anderson has been synonymous with unparalleled cancer care, and the Northwest Houston Surgical and Specialty Care Center extends this legacy. Specifically designed for outpatient surgeries, the facility caters to existing MD Anderson patients requiring procedures that do not necessitate an overnight stay, or those with a brief stay of up to 48 hours.
The MD Anderson physicians and care providers at Northwest Houston are a highly trained team specializing in oncology. This includes surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and surgical technologists who collaborate closely with the patient's care team to meticulously plan and execute treatment strategies. The scope of services at the center encompasses surgeries and procedures for various conditions, including breast cancer, gynecologic cancers, melanoma, urologic cancers, and cancer-related pain.
Understanding the importance of a supportive environment, the facility allows patients to have up to two visitors or caregivers in the pre-operative and post-anesthesia care unit. For overnight patients, one adult aged 18 or older is permitted to stay in their room, with additional visitors accommodated until 9 p.m. Outpatients must have a responsible adult available for discharge instructions and transportation after their procedures.
To further enhance the patient and visitor experience, the 1941 Marketplace Café on-site offers a convenient option for purchasing food and drinks. Parking is hassle-free with a surface lot in front of the building, and visitors can easily access the facility through the dedicated Surgery Entrance.
The MD Anderson Cancer Center Northwest Houston Surgical and Specialty Care marks a significant leap forward in extending world-class cancer care beyond the Texas Medical Center, underscoring MD Anderson's commitment to meeting the diverse needs of its patients.
