Lytle Pirates Stay Undefeated in District After Back-to-Back Dominant Wins, Set Sights on Hondo Showdown

March 26 2026

For Lytle families, students, and longtime Pirate supporters, this year’s baseball season is quickly becoming something special. With back-to-back district wins and an undefeated start in league play, the Lytle High School Pirates are not only winning games—they’re building momentum that the entire community can feel.

After opening district play with a commanding 16-0 victory over Cotulla on March 20, the Pirates followed it up with another decisive win on March 24, defeating the Dilley Wolves 18-2 and solidifying their place as an early district contender in Texas high school baseball.

Pirates Explode Late to Defeat Dilley

While the March 24 matchup against Dilley began as a more measured contest, the Pirates broke things wide open in the sixth inning, delivering a surge of offense that put the game out of reach.

Ethan Elizondo earned the win on the mound while also contributing offensively, going 2-for-2 at the plate. Travis Norton led all hitters with a 2-for-4 performance and three RBIs, helping drive in key runs during the decisive stretch.

The offensive depth continued to shine as Weston Jackson, Toby Davila, and Mason Hill each recorded two hits, reinforcing a lineup that has consistently produced throughout the season.

A Strong Start to District Play

The Pirates’ district opener against Cotulla set the tone just days earlier. In that 16-0 victory, Devin Cordova dominated on the mound and went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, while Mason Hill added to his standout season with his fifth home run and five RBIs.

Across both games, Lytle has outscored district opponents 34-2—a margin that reflects not only offensive firepower but also disciplined pitching and defensive execution.

The junior varsity squad has also mirrored that success, picking up an 8-1 win over Cotulla and showcasing the strength of the program at multiple levels.

Built Through a Demanding Road Schedule

This fast start in district play follows a challenging pre-district stretch that tested the Pirates’ resilience. Lytle spent more than a month playing 19 consecutive road games across tournaments and non-district matchups, gaining valuable experience along the way.

Highlights from that stretch include Ethan Elizondo’s no-hitter against Ingram Tom Moore and a series of strong tournament performances in Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend area.

Players like Mason Hill, Toby Davila, Weston Jackson, and Devin Cordova have consistently led the offense, while defensive leaders including Damien Barco and Juan Patlan have helped anchor the team in the field.

With an overall record of 14-6-1, the Pirates have steadily developed into a well-rounded team entering the most important part of the season.

Community Momentum Builds Ahead of Hondo Matchup

Now, attention turns to what could be one of the most anticipated games of the district season.

Lytle will travel to face Hondo on Friday, March 27 at 7 p.m. in a matchup between two undefeated district teams—a game already generating buzz across the community.

Coaches are encouraging fans, families, and neighbors to make the trip, with expectations of a packed crowd and a high-energy atmosphere.

For Lytle residents, it’s more than just a game—it’s an opportunity to rally behind a team that has shown resilience, growth, and pride in representing their town.

What This Means for Lytle

As district play continues, the Pirates’ strong start positions them as a serious contender, but it also reflects something deeper: a program built on consistency, teamwork, and community support.

With each win, the connection between the team and the town grows stronger—something that becomes especially clear on game nights, whether at home or on the road.

And with a pivotal matchup against Hondo ahead, Lytle has a chance to take another step forward in a season that is already capturing attention across South Texas high school baseball.
