Lytle Junior High Softball Teams Open Season Strong with Dominant Wins Over Natalia

March 20 2026

For families and residents in Lytle, Texas, the start of a new school sports season often brings more than just games—it brings a renewed sense of community pride. That spirit was on full display March 18, as both Lytle Junior High softball teams opened their 2026 season with commanding wins over Natalia.

The seventh-grade team secured a 17-4 victory, while the eighth-grade team followed with a dominant 10-0 shutout—setting an early tone for what could be an exciting season for Lytle ISD athletics.

These early wins not only reflect strong preparation and coaching but also highlight the growing pipeline of student-athletes representing the future of Lytle High School softball.

Seventh Grade Team Powers Past Natalia in High-Scoring Game

The seventh-grade Pirates delivered an offensive showcase, led by standout player Elizabeth Davenport, who drove in four runs on three hits. Her performance included a single, double, and triple—demonstrating both consistency and power at the plate.

After Natalia briefly tied the game 4-4 in the first inning, Lytle quickly regained control. Hits from Bristol Dubose and Madelyn Sanchez helped reclaim the lead in the second inning, while pitcher Emma Soto shut down Natalia’s momentum with three consecutive strikeouts to close the inning.

The Pirates continued to build their lead in the third inning, sparked by Soto’s triple to left field and another triple from Davenport. Contributions from Sydney Sollock and Macy Krisch kept the scoring going, pushing the game to 12-4 by the end of the third.

Lytle capitalized on additional opportunities in later innings, including walks and hit-by-pitches, along with another double from Davenport, to secure the 17-4 win.

Eighth Grade Team Delivers Shutout Performance

The eighth-grade team matched that energy with a commanding 10-0 victory, combining disciplined hitting with a standout performance on the mound.

Lytle got on the board early in the first inning after Alina Gonzalez singled, followed by a triple from Priscilla Martinez. Additional runs came from aggressive base running and defensive miscues by Natalia.

The Pirates extended their lead in the third inning with a two-run double by Arabella Castro and an RBI single from Milahni Mejia. One of the game’s most exciting moments came when Brooke Shipman hit an inside-the-park home run, bringing in three runs and energizing both the team and spectators.

Pitcher Amaya Rodriguez anchored the defense, allowing just one hit and no runs while striking out nine batters and issuing no walks—an efficient and confident outing to start the season.

In total, the eighth-grade team tallied 11 hits and 10 runs in a complete team effort.

Building Confidence Early in the Lytle ISD Softball Season

For Lytle ISD, strong performances at the junior high level are more than just wins—they represent development, discipline, and the future of the district’s athletic programs. Early-season success can build confidence in young athletes while strengthening school spirit across the community.

Games like these often bring families, classmates, and neighbors together, reinforcing the role of school sports as a cornerstone of small-town connection and pride.
