LSC-CyFair Library Invites Cypress Community to 'Catch the Curiosity' During National Adopt-A-Cat Month Events
Cat lovers across Cypress and Northwest Houston will have plenty of reasons to smile this June as Lone Star College-CyFair Library transforms into a hub of creativity, learning and community connection during National Adopt-A-Cat Month.
Through a month-long series of themed programs called “Catch the Curiosity,” the library is offering residents of all ages a chance to explore educational activities inspired by feline friends while also spotlighting pet adoption, literacy, creativity and wellness.
The initiative, centered around this year’s “Purr-fect Pets” celebration, reflects the growing role public libraries play in bringing communities together through interactive experiences that go far beyond bookshelves. For families in Cypress, students home for summer break, and adults looking for unique local events, the June lineup offers a mix of entertainment, education and meaningful community engagement.
The festivities begin June 6 with the Curious Cat “Purrson” Party — a cat-themed event featuring games, crafts, videos, a photobooth and other “CATivities” designed for all ages. Organizers note that while feline fun is encouraged, actual cats should stay home for the event.
Throughout June, visitors can participate in ongoing “Paw-ssive” programs including cat coloring pages, puzzles and a cat zine contest. Younger attendees can enjoy Kitty Cat Story Times, Tween Craft Time featuring “Purr-ler” Beads and take-and-make children’s crafts that encourage creativity during the summer months.
The programming also extends online through Lone Star College-CyFair Library’s social media channels, where residents can join “Crafting with Kitties” each Friday and receive “Kitty Cat Book Recs” every Tuesday on Instagram and Facebook.
For adults ages 18 and older, the library has planned several specialty programs blending culture, wellness and hands-on learning with the month’s feline theme.
On June 9, attendees can explore “Curious Italian Cats: A Cat Talk and Photo Exhibition,” featuring cappuccinos, a visual tour of cats from the heart of Italy and conversations about Italian culture and laws involving cats.
The next day, June 10, readers can join the “MEOW-t” of this World Book Club discussion focused on Matt Dinnamin’s popular novel Dungeon Crawler Carl, a book that has developed a growing fan base among science fiction and fantasy readers.
One of the month’s most anticipated events arrives June 11 with Curious Cat “Balloga,” a blend of ballet and yoga where participants can relax alongside adoptable kittens. The wellness-focused event combines movement, stress relief and animal interaction — a growing trend in community programming nationwide.
Gardeners and plant enthusiasts can also attend the June 13 “Pet Friendly Plants” program, which will explore safe and beneficial plants for households with cats while discussing gardening topics beyond traditional catnip.
The celebration concludes June 20 with the library’s fifth annual Curious Cat Café, where visitors can meet adoptable kittens from a local foster-based cat rescue organization while enjoying pastries, beverages, games and cat-themed crafts.
For many local residents, events like these offer more than entertainment. They create opportunities for families, neighbors and students to connect in shared community spaces during the summer months while supporting literacy, creativity and animal welfare initiatives.
As libraries across the Houston area continue evolving into community gathering spaces, programs like “Catch the Curiosity” highlight how institutions such as Lone Star College-CyFair Library are finding creative ways to engage residents of all ages through educational and interactive experiences.
