Lone Star College-CyFair Brings Laughter to the Stage with ‘Moon Over Buffalo’

February 24 2025

Theatergoers in Cypress are in for a night of fast-paced comedy and theatrical mayhem as Lone Star College-CyFair (LSC-CyFair) presents Ken Ludwig’s hilarious play, Moon Over Buffalo. The production will take place March 4-8 in the Main Stage Theatre, offering audiences a mix of witty dialogue, slapstick humor, and the chaos of a struggling theater troupe.

A Classic Comedy Comes to Life

Set in 1953, Moon Over Buffalo follows George and Charlotte Hay, aging stars of the stage, who find themselves at a career crossroads. After George’s affair with a young ingénue threatens their marriage, the couple gets a last-minute opportunity to revive their careers when a famous film director expresses interest in seeing them perform. However, as expected in any classic farce, miscommunication, mistaken identities, and sheer pandemonium ensue, creating an evening of non-stop laughter.

“The beauty of Moon Over Buffalo is its combination of old-school physical comedy with a heartfelt story,” said Franklin Otis, Theater/Stage Production Director at LSC-CyFair. “It’s a love letter to live theater and a reminder of how fun it is to experience performances in person.”

The Value of Local Live Performances

Supporting live theater at LSC-CyFair is more than just entertainment—it’s an investment in students, community engagement, and the performing arts. Affordable ticket prices make attending a live show an accessible and enjoyable outing for families, while students gain valuable performance experience that helps shape their future careers.

“Live theater is an incredible opportunity for students to gain real-world experience in performance and production,” Otis explained. “For many, this is their first chance to act in front of an audience, work behind the scenes, and learn the complexities of staging a professional-level show.”

Beyond providing hands-on experience for students, attending local productions fosters a sense of community. The interactive nature of theater allows audiences to engage with the arts in a unique way, while their attendance directly supports the next generation of performers, directors, and stage technicians.

“Coming to a show like this means you’re supporting local talent and encouraging students in their craft,” said Otis. “It’s a great way to give back while enjoying a night of entertainment.”
