Local Women's Club Fosters Enduring Friendships
Have you recently retired and want to make meaningful connections with others through fun and friendship? Maybe you moved to the Northwest Houston region and you'd like to make news friends as you plant roots? If you answered "yes" to either of those questions, then FAN is the place for you!
Friends And Neighbors Women's Club (FAN) is a not-for-profit social and charitable club with an extensive network of fantastic women who gather weekly to enjoy life to the fullest. Just as Welcome Wagon organizations once helped women make friends in a new community, FAN extends that community-building and friendship-making to those new to the area and the recently retired. Today, FAN membership totals over 250 women who have the energy to give, time to share, and the desire to participate in fun and friendship. FAN members live across Northwest Houston, stretching from Cypress through Klein and Spring to The Woodlands and beyond. Many are retired nurses, teachers, business owners, and executives; some still work or operate their businesses, and most volunteer in the community.
Dozens of activities and special interest groups allow each member to tailor FAN to her preferences. In addition to table games such as Bunco, Bridge, Mexican Train, Canasta, and Mah Jongg, there are movie matinees, happy hours, book clubs, wine tastings, and groups for antiquing, gardening, line dancing, and nature walks, plus organized outings to holiday and theater events, and Overnight and Day Trips to interesting venues in and around Houston. FAN truly offers something for everyone!
Each year, FAN members select a deserving charity to support, and we raise donations through an auction and raffle at our annual Holiday Charity Luncheon. Charities we've recently sponsored include:
- Shield Bearer Counseling Centers
- The Living Legacy Center
- Children's Transplant Initiative
- Sleep in Heavenly Peace
We work with many local businesses that donate their services or products, gift certificates, prizes, or other fun items to be auctioned or raffled at the charity luncheon. Because FAN members enjoy dining out as a part of most activities, and many share lunch after our monthly General Meetings, area restaurants are generous supporters. Boutiques, wine bars, salons, home and auto services, realtors, jewelers, and other businesses also support FAN's philanthropic initiatives. FAN's annual donations to these charities positively impact their operations and those they serve within our local community.
FAN General Meetings are held monthly from September through April, with our Holiday Charity Luncheon in December and Spring Luncheon in May. Meetings start with time to socialize before we review FAN-related business, followed by an entertaining or informative presentation on topics of interest.
The membership dues of FAN are put to good use, supporting various programs, special events, renting our meeting space, and creating an annual Membership Directory that keeps everyone connected. FAN also maintains an informative website and Facebook page that shares updates about upcoming meetings and events and fun photos of members' activities.
FAN warmly invites any prospective member to participate in two General Meetings or activities before deciding if FAN is a good fit for her. Most women will agree that FAN is a fun and fulfilling part of her life!
